Does anyone else find the straps on a Britax Duo Plus Isofix very SHORT? Do I need a high back booster?

I wonder if I'm doing something wrong. DS is 16.2kg, 3 years old and probably about a metre tall (not sure exactly but he can almost stand with his head out of the water in the 0.9m bit of swimming pool).

I really really don't want to move him into a high back booster when he should have a long time left before he gets to the weight limit of his current seat, but we seem to have immense difficulty getting the straps to fasten over DS now, if he is wearing a coat in the car.

Does anyone have the same, and can anyone advise on whether I should or shouldn't be moving to the high back booster?

How thick is his coat?

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/01/2009 18:33

I don't have any problem with this (dd 3 next month and a similar weight to your ds I think). She rarely wears a coat in the car, but there would still be plenty of strap left if she did.

I also don't have any problem. With have 2 of these seats and both ds's sit comfortably with their coats on.Is there any chance that the straps have some how become stuck at the back, stopping you from extending them further?

Thanks for the replies. We have two too and they're both the same. They both look the same at the back too, so I can't think that there's any extra strap length stuck there.

It's when he wears his thick duffel coat that we really struggle to get the straps done up, but there is precious little slack left even with thinnish clothes.

Interesting that no-one else seems to have this problem though. I might ring Britax and ask them.

Maybe he's too tall

ohdearwhatamess · 04/01/2009 13:30

We don't have that problem - lots of spare strap left. Ds1 a bit younger though (2.8), much shorter (85cm, ish) and lighter (12kg). He never wears a coat in the car either.

mrsgboRingOutTheOld · 04/01/2009 13:35

Oh yes, ohdearwhatamess, my DS was fine with the strap length when he was that age and size.

If I don't enforce coat on before we leave the house, he just won't wear it at all. Plus it was minus 7 in the car this morning, so coats were essential.

Have managed to gain a tiny bit extra strappage from tucking the belt carefully under the coat, but I think it'll soon be the booster seat for us ( as I don't feel it's nearly as secure as his current seat)

My son was in his until just over age 4, over 1m tall and up to max weight of 18kg. Didn't have any problems with straps being too short.
