Seats/chairs for babies

Our little one had an activity chair that was brilliant. She loved sitting in it when we were in the lounge eg. watching TV. She really hates laying down now but is too big for her activity chair. Unfortunately she does not have brilliant trunk and neck control - so she is able to sit but needs to be supported in some way. We don't mind propping her up in the sofa but thought it might be good to get her a chair/seat of her own.

Any suggestions??

How old is she? I've been looking at the Bumbo chair, you can get it from www.urchin.co.uk.

I have seen that one Enid and I was wondering if anyone had one and how they found it. She is almost 8 months

My dd is 2 and 3 months and STIll uses her recliner/rocker that she had as a baby as it's a very sturdy Britax one with a strong metal frame - she calls it her rocking chair and all attempts to offer something else (eg we bought her a bean bag ) have been flatly rejected!

thanks bayleaf - I just worry as dd is determined to sit up and so rather than reclining as the chair naturally does she wants to try and sit straight up. Size wise she is fine in her chair but I just wondered if she would tip it forward when trying to sit forward.

Might keep using it for now and keep and eye on her.

Thanks again bayleaf and enid.

We had a playnest (£25 from Blooming Marvellous) - a big inflatable ring that ds could sit propped up in.

My ds uses the playnest at nursery and loves it! Wish we had bought one earlier.....

The playnest is a good idea but if you are interested in the Bumbo it would be worth looking at Grobag.com. They sell it and are doing free postage at the moment - see other thread.

The bumbo is the most amazing chair for babies who can't sit, or can't sit for long I have ever seen. Grobag sell it for the best price. It's useful for "before the highchair" stage too when weaning. Playnests are also brilliant cause you can pop toys in there and know they're safe and occuplied when you have to step out of the room for a moment...

thank you so much everyone. She has a playnest which she loves and dh blew it up fuller for her this weekend and it seems to be okay. Thanks for that snickers re: bumbo - I just wondered how she would go with head/neck/trunk control. Will look into it.

It's a very clever design... She will sit comfortably, despite trunk and head control will improve extremely quickly. It's not too expensive, and is worth every penny.
