hoover frost free fridge freezer - help?

i think the freezer is playing up, some items are hard/frozen others are soft, i have no instruction manual,
anyone know what the frost free button on the top of the unit is for?
the model is the big one fridge over freezer 6ft high if that helps

i bought ice cream on thurs put it in and yesterday it was soft when i took it out,
there is no smell of food going off though

The best thing might be to buy a freezer thermometer. My freezer was doing this a while back, I wasnt sure if the door wasnt closing properly. In the end we bought a new freezer as I was worried about eating food from there.
