Which washing machine to buy?

My washing machine has just packed up, and I need to get a new one ASAP ( three children so cant be without one!).
Does anyone have any recommendations? Ideally would like something energy efficient. My DH is very keen on the LG Steam direct washing machine, which is about £600. Something similar but cheaper would be good .
I'd probably want to spend £300-500.
Getting it delivered quickly is very important - would I bebetter with an internet site, or am I likely to get it delivered quicker if I order from a shop?

Thanks

I just bought a new one after a massive amount of research. I ended up with a John Lewis one that had a huge capacity - it came with a 3 year guarantee, and there was very fast delivery. They also took the old one away. I think mine was the JLWM1604 (7kg capacity). It costs £488 and I got some extra off because it had a bit of a dent when they delivered it - I think I may have paid £400 in the end. I think these machines may be manufactured by Bosch or a similar company.

2 working day delivery at the moment.

I had the same problem.... I had an AEG for 15 years very good! Then someone gave me a indesit V expensive CRAP it broke in 2 years unrepairable (is that a word?) the drum collapsed on to the motor and then smashed the filter!

Do not buy a washing machine which has no access to the filter,, with kids all those coins and bits get stuck in there, so you will be able to pull all the bits out yourself and not have to call an engineer..

Any way now have bosch (£280) v good! john Lewis are great because of the gurantee and parts etc....

Or you can price compare and get the same one much cheaper. just cut and paste the model no and google it.

Thanks to you all. I think that a machine with a long guarentee would be a good idea. I seem to be only getting 2-3 years out of them at the moment.
The ISE ones look interesting from that point of view.
Useful point about the filter too, I wouldnt have thought of that.
I like the look of the John Lewis one too. So much to think about!
Thanks again.

I'd definitely consider a Bosch for reliability and a large capacity machine is very useful for speeding up bed linen washing (and great for when you want to wash a quilt. I'd go for a local store and ask them to price match if necessary. In our case, our local store www.mawashvac.co.uk/ came very close to an internet price and threw in installation for free. If you can support a local business that's an added bonus (sorry if that sounds preachy!)

Iam usually really nervous about buying online - not being able to see and touch the product etc, etc.

I needed it really quickly and i found a site that could deliver next day - so I went for it!

I bought an Aqaultis from Hotpoint becasue i've heard they're reliable and the other appliances I have from them haven't let me down yet.

Here's a link if you want to have a look;

Check out price comparison sites for the best deals and quickest deliveries!

I have an indesit moon - really great. Has a short wash of 30 minutes to just do a freshen up wash, really good for adults clothing and A+ rating.
