KitchenAid vs. Kenwood Chef - which is better?

Got some Xmas vouchers burning a hole in my pocket and I want to get either a Kenwood Chef or a KitchenAid.

Price difference aside, which is best and why?

I've got the Kenwood Chef and really like it, although it's a bit wasted on me as I believe it is an all singing all dancing machine for professionals, whilst the KitchenAid is more for the home. Although I'm sure someone will be along and disagree with me

I'm sure the Kenwood has more attachments available than the KitchenAid.

I think the KitchenAid looks prettier, if that makes a difference to your choice?!

I agree with the looks thing, but your point about professional use is interesting as I am hoping to open a baking business in 2009.

I love my chef mil has an aid and loves it. Unless you have both its hard to compare. I have to agree with moveits sum up. Mines not pretty its 70s I think but they really did make them properly in those days. Its a workhorse if anything and I'm often on ebay perving over gadgets for it.

mediocre - you dirty girl, perving over Ebay for attachments!

If you go for the Kenwood, really shop around for the best price as some places include a lot of attachments.

Pennies · 28/12/2008 11:33

I'm kind of trapped into getting it from John Lewis (which is where the vouchers are from) - will that have loads of attachments?

Mediocre - what goes in the bit at the front of the chef - just above the bowl?

Well it depends what you want. It looks like it comes with the K -beater, whisk and dough hook, and a liquidiser and food processor. All the basics you would need I would think. You can also get things like juicers, pasta makers and spice mills etc.

Molesworth · 28/12/2008 11:49

WANT ONE!

Doesn't Kenwood do a Kitchenaid lookalikey?

mediocrebronze · 28/12/2008 11:59

Pennies mainly the liquidiser but I'm sure other things do too.

Pennies · 28/12/2008 12:00

The liquidiser? But how? Surely it would be horizontal? Eeekk! This hole is at the front of it, not at the top.

I cant think how you mean. Mine has the bits for putting the k whisk , dough hook etc in. Above that is the place where you put the juice extractor on the top (sorry got confused thought it was liquidiser) then at the other end on the top the place for the liquidiser. Mine is an old version though.
Which one are you looking at?

Molecule · 28/12/2008 12:20

All depends on what model you get as to what bits come with it. I have a Kenwood major which has a (small) food-processor and liquidiser, as well as the K-beater, whisk and dough hook, and then there are loads of extras you can buy. I bake semi-professionally so need the extra capacity of the major. Have to agree that the Kitchen Aid looks far nicer.

TheStiltonAlarm · 28/12/2008 12:28

You can get all kinds of attachments for the horizontal front slot; mincers, food mills, pasta rollers etc. I love my Kenwood!

ninedragons · 28/12/2008 12:29

Sorry, nothing to add, just putting this on my threads I'm on as I'm in the same situation.

Pennies · 28/12/2008 12:34

It's a terrible situation to be in isn't it ninedragons.

Kenwood winning at the moment - seems that there's so much more you can do with it and as my blender blew up this year and my current food processor is almost of the Jurassic age, then this could be the way forward.

But the KitchenAid is so pretty! I think I want the white one.

dizzydixies · 28/12/2008 12:43

I desperately wanted the kitchenAid but dh bought me the kenwood last year for Christmas and I love it

stinkymonkey · 28/12/2008 12:51

As Harry Hill would say - There's only one way to find out - FIIIGHT!!!

MrsGokWan · 28/12/2008 18:51

I was literally physically drooling over that Kenwood. Reaaly would love that. Then I saw the price
