Wine - enjoyed a nice bottle recently?

Please could anyone recommend a bottle (not expensive - just a Christmas gesture max £8)? I have an ASDA, Somerfield, M&S and Wine Rack near me if that helps.

I don't drink at all so always hate having to choose it for other people.

Thank you

is it red, white or rose you are looking for?

M&S is a good bet. The wine critic in the Guardian rates it as the best high street wine seller. This is one wine he recommended recently:

2007 La Sabrosita Old Vine Garnacha, Calatayud (£5.49, 14.5%). Lightly oaked, old vine Garnacha with explosive bramble and blackberry fruit. From M&S.

Or just go in and wander about.

A nice red Borolo .

Hadn't even thought about it - errr preferably red, white ok but probably not rose. It is just to give to the parents of some friends as a token gift.

Thank you

I'm no expert but I had a bottle of Brown Brothers Dry Muscat the other day. It was really different from anything I had had before - I thought Muscat was always sweet but this was really dry and had the most wonderful smell. I normally don't mind as long as its not Pinot Grigo (which I really don't like) but this stood out to me as unusual. It was about 6 quid.

Wolf Blass is nice but might be pricier than £8 a bottle.

Crianza (sp) is Spanish and very yum as well. Tescos or Somerfields are very good with their wine buyers.

Has anyone tried the M&S wine that has no sulphate in it? A pal of mine did a test and drank two bottles of their red and felt great the next day!

One of my favourites is Montana Sauvignon Blanc (white) from New Zealand. You can usually buy it in Tesco and Sainsbury, don't know about the other shops. It's around £8 a bottle (although I often buy it if it's on special offer).
