Thanks but that's the problem, already got one and using it (as playpen). I don't really want another one and they're pricey. My gap is about 1.5 metres.

Daytime bumperoo, there must be some wide gates somewhere...

this site has a few gates that go wider with extensions

Thanks, ordered a wooden one off Safetots. They've got a really neat 'stairgate finder' on the homepage which was just the ticket. Let's hope it arrives and works.
