Aaargh - Amazon, 'in stock' but not despatching til 29th Dec?!

Can this be true?

I have just filled my basket with my wholechristmas shop (practically) and although al products are shown as 'in stock' it lists all but one item as having an estimated despatch date of 29 Dec - 5th jan!! Why would this be? can it be true?

If I pat £20+ for express first class delivery it will all be despatched in Tuesday, apparantly!

Shall I risk it - or pay?

Its here ploy to make money as we all panic near christmas. If you pay you will get it, if you do not you will not, as a result I am boycotting Amazon. It would be cheaper to get a cab to a shop and back, thus half the point of Amazon is negated.

artichokes · 06/12/2008 18:07

oops
"their" not "here"

compo · 06/12/2008 18:08

is it an actual book?
if not see who the seller is.
I bought something off amazon but the seller was the entertainer.
Went on the entertainer's site and it was cheaper

They must have just started saying this in the last couple of days, I ordered 5 things from Amazon last Wednesday and they were all dispatched by Saturday.

WhatSheSaid · 06/12/2008 18:14

Saturday as in today, for you guys. It's Sunday where I am!

RubberDuck · 06/12/2008 18:15

I've long since learned to never ever order Christmas presents from Amazon in December. Have had too many orders miss in the past. Great the rest of the year, too unreliable this time of year.

SaintGeorge · 06/12/2008 18:17

Blu, I have Amazon Prime, which means I qualify for free (or cheaper) deliveries.

Email me, I'll see if I can get your stuff quicker for you.

Ah, StG, you are a star - thank you - but I tried letuseatcake's tactic and now the whole lot (minus DVDs now ordered on HMV or play.com with free immediate postage..) is (I hope...) arriving free and on target!

You should be able to sign up for a month's free trial of Amazon Prime which gives you free, next day delivery. You can cancel after the month, no problem.

Blu · 06/12/2008 19:10

yes....that offer came up once I removed a particular item!

Blu · 06/12/2008 19:13

It was just all totally illogical in the first place - one toy coming immediately, the rest at a later with the one thing that was holding everything else up. Now I have cancelled that, and they have lost half the business to play.com, I can get it all free and on time!

Oh well - al sorted - hope they are reliable!

No problem Blu.

They are pretty reliable, once you have the confirmation. It is getting the confirmation in the first place that seems to be the stickler.

LurkerOfTheUniverse · 06/12/2008 19:42

I find Amazon totally over-estimate their delivery times.

I ordered loads of stuff last Wednesday and everything had arrived by today, despite them saying 19th - 23rd December.

carrielou2007 · 06/12/2008 20:45

I ordered something on thursday with estimate delivery of friday next week to be despatched but had email today saying sent today so who knows...

elkiedee · 06/12/2008 20:52

Quite irritating but I've always found play.com pretty reliable, plus my parcels are more likely to fit through the door and I don't have to send dp to the post office 48 hours later, or worse, have to try and contact a courier depot.

Good luck with getting everything you've ordered in time.

Thinking, must sort out my own online Christmas shopping.

HappyMummyOfOne · 06/12/2008 21:01

Take the item off that shows a delay and see if the date changes for the rest - it should do. Can then just place another order for that item so it doesnt delay anything.

I've ordered loads this month and all on time so far but had no problems last xmas either.

slayerette · 06/12/2008 21:04

Here's the irony: I ordered the new series of House on DVD as a treat for me (spending birthday vouchers) and am still waiting for it...

Ordered a selection of books for work [yawn emoticon] and they arrived two days later with Supersaver delivery! So while I'm waiting for House, I can read Mill on the Floss
