kids laptop for a 4 year old... what one is the best?

i want to get one of those little kid's laptop computer things for my ds for his 4th birthday in Jan (hopefully cheaper in the sales) but there are so many.

what one is best?

i want one that is fun, easy for a 4 year old to do alone (after they have learnt first), one that isn't too complicated but one that isn't too easy either.

ive seen ones that look like actual laptops in argos, and also the kiddie ones like thomas and little einsteins.

i also want this to last a good couple of years too

any advice? what would you recommend?

Can't you just pass on yours and get yourself a new one?

I am going to pass on the one I use currently which is all yucky and old and get a lovely new shiny one for me

ha ha yeah that would be a good excuse to treat myself

although i would need to win the lottery first before i could treat myself to that kind of luxury!!

Try the V Tech ones - they are specifically for kids and DON'T cost the earth (less than £50)... they don't do everything a laptop will do but will help the kids with learning to use a laptop and does provide parental responsibility.

Alternatively, try to get an old one from Freecycle...

I intend to do what Anna has said: We just bought DSD1 an APple Mac and will keep her old(frankly manky Medion! ) for DS!!

How much were you hoping to spend on an older / cheaper one?

Just done a random search on Google and this was the first 'hit': here

I saw these in Currys yesterday and did think it looked nice - would get one for DS but he's only 6 months old!

DS had the Vtech Letter Fun Laptop - very well made, simple to use alone and portable for the car/grannies etc.

Think we paid around £30 for it and was a good buy. Also had the voice of Justin Fletcher on it which amused DS as he used to love him.

They easily last until outgrown and then can be passed on or ebayed etc.
