Please - which ones are good and which ones to avoid.

I've had two Tomtoms and they are great. Currently have the Tomtom One Europe and I love it. The newest model is very easy to use, very compact and sticks onto the windscreen which the other one never managed to do (they've improved their 'sticking on' system'). We bought my dad a Navman and I hate it.

Another vote for a Tom Tom. We have just bought one as we have just moved to a new area - it's great and very simple to use. My dad also has one which is a lot older, we have just updated it for him and it was very straight forward to do.

before I go and make a prat of myself in Halfords , can you get them to stick onto the dashboard as well (only my car has a very sloped windscreen so sticking one on there wouldn't really work, but I do have place on the dash where one could go)?

Hmm, not sure. If you haven't already made a prat of yourself in Halfords although I'm sure they've heard far prattier questions ) I'll have a go with mine tonight and tell you if it stays on
