Here is a blast from the past for parents of probably boys aged 12 plus..... BEYBLADES..... can they still be bought?

They were the must have toy of Christmas 2002 and my 2 oldest boys, then aged 6 and 4 had one each and loved them for a while.

Today, ds3 aged 5 so too young to remember beyblades came across our one remaining top and was playing with it.

At last I had an idea of what to buy him for Christmas, and ds1's friend who was here at the time, swore blind to me that beyblades can still be bought.

But he has now gone home and ds1 and I have searched the internet to no avail. All we can find are second hand sales of beyblades on ebay, a dodgy site called "in toys" which freezes my pc every time I make the mistake of clicking on it, and various beyblades computer games for sale which is not what we want.

So, the question is, can you still buy the original spinning tops, launchers and rip pulls.

And if you can't, what is the (small, cheap) in toy for 5/6 years olds this Christmas? Something ds3 could play with with friends, preferably.

Thanks.

We got some from ToysRUs in late 2006, I think, worth ringing them.
If you can't find any, maybe I can persuade DS to sell you his (haven't been played with in ages ).

I would consider it peanutbutterkid!

I have already checked toysrus online and met with nothing

I am watching some lots on ebay but the decent looking lots are going for silly money.

My two got back into Beyblades earlier in the year - about two years after I'd binned lost the HUGE collection they had built up previously.

We managed to find Beyblade arenas in ToysRus for 20p each, but no Beyblades.

We had to get them from Hong Kong via sellers on eBay. They are really good quality though - much better than the ones we bought in UK years ago.

You need to check if they come with rip pulls though - some did and some didn't.

I've got a brand new boxed one you can have FFP, DG. It's been in my present drawer. Don't want to let the boys see it as they'll notice that I gave their stadium away on Freecycle!!

Yes I am aware of the need for rip cords. The reason we only have one now is that ds2 (when aged 4) took his beyblade to school and lost the rip cord and it was never the same after that!

I am not sure the arenas are worth it tbh. Ours was ripped within hours of getting IIRC and a cardboard box did just as well.

I noted all the Hong Kong sellers, but what guarantee is there that the instructions will be in English or does that not matter? Also, would they come in time for Xmas? Why am I so mistrustful of buying from abroad?

Ideally I would like 2 so ds3 can play with a friend but I will email you soupy.

omg ds1 who is now 9yrs LOVED these!! they all got binned. The only things i kept for ds2/3 were his toy story things and power ranges.

Hassled · 29/11/2008 21:22

We've got some from Ebay in the past year - posted from Hong Kong. Still played with a lot by DS3.

Hassled · 29/11/2008 21:23

DG - no problems re HK vendors. Can't remember about the instructions but they always come with handy pictures.

DumbledoresGirl · 30/11/2008 11:35

Soupdragon, I have emailed you. I feel the need to post that here in case my email has not reached you. I am also watching some lots on ebay but I would prefer to buy from someone I feel I know.

I haven't received an email yet. I'll weigh it and let you know how much the postage is - it's one of the "metal gear" ones so might be heavyish.

DumbledoresGirl · 01/12/2008 15:31

Could you try emailing me
[email protected]

Ds3 has his heart set on one now and of course, as with each year, I seem to be looking for the last one left in the world!

P.S. I would cat you but you don't receive cats?

Have tried emailing you again soupy. Is the "I am" part of your message actually part of your email address? I think I might have misunderstood originally and started your address as "soupdragon at ....."
