Ergo for a newborn? If not then what?

DC2 is due in April so I'll need a sling or wrap. I had a ring sling when DS was small but never really got on with it -- it hurt my back and I never got the knack of getting him comfy in it.

I have got an Ergo that I used when DS was bigger and really liked -- but not sure if it's suitable for a newborn? (I haven't got the newborn insert for it but suppose I could get it off eBay.)

Or what else would people recommend for a newborn? I am petite and prone to backache. Also would be handy if I could BF in it.

Do you want your DH to be able to use the same carrier?

You could use the Ergo with newborn insert. Your other main options are a wrap or a pouch sling. Pouches you need to get a specific size depending on your height and build (so not so good for sharing with a larger DH/DP). Wraps are very versatile (and one-size-fits-all) but can be a bit of a faff until you get used to them.

Or there's a Close Baby Carrier which is a sort of pseudo-wrap style (so not as versatile but also less faff). I never had much success breastfeeding in that, though (although in principle you can, so it may just be me). It was very easy and comfortable when DD was a newborn, though.

snort I read the thread title and thought it was in the Baby Names section at first....

No opinion on the sling as I have never used it

Have just googled the Close Baby Carrier and it does look like what I was after. I will also have a toddler to contend with so easy = good. I'll see if I can find any on eBay.

Actually, I lied - I have a Close sling which I bought for DD3 and I loooove it - very comfy. Never did manage to bf in it, but she slept in it a lot when she was little, leaving my hands free for sorting out DD1 and 2.

I've just ordered a Moby Wrap from here after lots of great reviews. It's a good deal cheaper than the Close and my friend who had a close didn't like the rings on it, she said they dug into her sides a bit and she felt like they kept slipping.

If you do decide to stick with the Ergo, I have a newborn insert (never used) you can have free for postage
