I'm tempted by one as like the fact that the cooking surface isn't hot after you take the pan off, but warey as I have never heard of them before and wonder what the down side. Any thoughts....?

We have one - it's lovely, we are a bit in love with it. Downsides are: it was very expensive, and we had to buy a few new pans as some of our old ones no longer worked on it. Upsides are it is incredibly easy to clean (food can't cook on to it), works very well (water boils in seconds!) and looks very smart! hth

yes that helps a lot thanks. It just seemed a bit too good to be true in the shop. We are going to have to put the hob in the peninsular of our kitchen which will have some seating round it too and I'm worried about the kids being near a hot hob. When you take the pan off is it cool enough to be safe in a short while? Also re the pans, I don't mind buying some new ones as I've only got three mankey saucepans atm but have a nice Le Creuset one, do you thnk will that work?

Our induction hob is utterly fantastic. They are also much more environmentally sound as they only use up energy on the bit of the pan that it's touching, so not the whole ring, iyswim.
our le creuset pots are fine on it too

the surface is hot when you take the pan off but it cools fast. If I understand it right, the surface doesn't get hot to make the pan (and then the food) hot, but when the food inside the pan heats up of course the pan does too, and this in turn makes the glass surface hot. But as it hasn't been giving out heat itself it does cool much faster.
I love mine, it is excellent, very controllable, very fast.

Just scratches easy so care is an issue but dead easy to wipe and shine
Tis magic
We enjoyed pan shopping
