should they be used before their 'use by' date is up? I cant quite remember.

i believe that there is an age after which car seats should be changed. Cant remember if its like over 5 years old etc or longer than that. I guessed it was to try make sure some of the older car seats are not fatigued and safety is up to date as it were

there is a suggestion of 5-7 years depending where you look.

It is only a guidline though and not formal.
