i have a close baby carrier and access to wrap slings, which are all good, but feel like ineed something a bit more simple for round the house and quick trips out.

how do pouch slings work? would they be ok over a winter coat? or do i need to use it under and leave my coat unbuttoned?

would a ring sling be better?

dd4 is only a few days old.

I used to love rings slings. I used them with ds2 and still have a collection of about 4. I was sure sure sure I would use them again this time around. When ds3 was a few weeks old and I was using the rings slings, I ran into a woman at a Strabucks using a Close. I loved it and bought one. Now, it has eclipsed use of my ring slings. It is way more comfy and easy to use. In the early weeks, I did find it a bit faff getting him in and out. Now, at 3 months old, it is just as easy to use as a ring sling and more comfy.

So, what I am saying is that if you give it a bit of time, you will find the close easy as a puch or ring sling to use.

HOWEVER, once your baby is able to sit on your hip (4-6 months ish), then a ring sling is great and very quick when they are awake. I think they really come into their own then. The baby can look around more easily than facing you in a close, and you can pop them in and out so easily.

Pouches are just like ring slings, but not adjustable. You could not easily wear it both over and under your coat as it needs to be sized to fit you.

Be careful with the fit on pouch slings, they can take all the weight on your neck rather than your shoulder. Ring slings are great for carrying a baby on the hip, they are adjustable so you can make them fit comfortably over the shoulder.

I loved my hugabub and used it for ages (till ds was around 22lbs) The wide material meant it was very comfy on your shoulders for some hours.
To keep warm I used a cardi that I bought when prgt from Isabella Oliver. It was quite expensive but as it is a cross over I used it when prgt, when I had ds 2 in the sling and I still use it now and it looks great. I'm prgt with dc 3 and will use it again, it washed well too.
