Is it okay to put a single quilt on a cotbed for a 2.5YO?

Yeah I've been looking into buying a proper duvet for my DS and my mum and gran have bought a few bits n pieces which happen to be for a single bed anyway my mum said it would be fine to use a single quilt what do you lot think?

Now that our youngest has the cotbed sized duvet in her cot, DC3 has a single bed duvet for his cotbed. I just fold the bottom foot or so under itself IYSWIM. It drapes over the edge to the floor each side, but looks fine and stays on him better than the smaller one did. HTH

Thanks clarice I never thought of that I guess it might stay on better and could tuck it under each side of mattress to keep him tucked in too.

Both my older 2 have [had] a single duvet on their cotbed, as cb says, it stays on better, and with the end tucked in it's harder for them to totally kick it off in the night.
