Non-scary DVD films for toddlers, can anyone recommend?

My girls are nearly three and starting to enjoy films. Every DVD I buy seems to have something that terrifies them (scary shark/monster/witch or similar). Can anyone recommend a film without scary bits? Something I can sit through without going mad! Cheers for any suggestions.

I found that Cinderella went down very well - my daughter was too scared of Snow White, Lion King, Monsters INC - basically everything - but Cinderella was a hit! The stepmum is mean but not frightening.
Also we got a cheap Alice in Wonderland - not sure what other versions are like but ours is very innocent with no scary bits at all!
Her dad took her to see Wall-E at the cinema recently (she's 4) and she goes on about that all the time, so maybe when that's on DVD it might be worth a try? Not seen it myself though.

HSM!!!
My 4 year old loves it and she is scared by everything too (had to turn Stuart Little off the other day). She doesn't follow it at all but loves the songs ;)
She also loves Mary Poppins, and Shrek as long as you fast forward the dragon . I think sometimes llive action is less scary than the cartoons.

The Barbie filmas are brill even though there are baddies in them.

DD (2.5) adores Cars, Ratatouille and Jungle Book.

traceface · 01/11/2008 22:41

oh yes - we saw Barbie the Island Princess and loved it! (well she loved it - not my cup of tea!)

RiojaLover75 · 01/11/2008 22:44

My DS 3.3 loves Cars, Jungle Book, Dumbo, Nemo and Land Before Time.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 01/11/2008 22:46

Trying hard to think what films DD has but all hers have 'scary' bits in them. She loves Madagascar, Chicken Little, Chicken Run (everything by Nick Park) Over the Hedge, all the Shrek films.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 01/11/2008 22:46

Ice Age 1 and 2

littlelamb · 01/11/2008 22:47

My dd was a dvd wimp until very recently. I was going to suggest Cinderella, but then I remembered that she ws terrified of the cat.

pinkteddy · 01/11/2008 22:48

Another vote for cinderella and mary poppins. There is a cinderella II which dd really loves. She was scared of everything so we had limited choices!

mazzystartled · 01/11/2008 22:53

lvts of them have peril that's not mild enough for my ds, Rataouille was a disaster with the mean old lady with the gun. he was for a long time also very sensitive to anything with parents and children being separated in any way so that's Nemo and Ice Age out.

So Madagascar, Bee Movie, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang upt o the point of the "intermission" but never beyond "P-o-s-h", Cars, ALvin and the Chipmunks.

dinny · 01/11/2008 23:01

mine are terrified of the lady with the gun too! (6 and 4)

their faves are:

The Secret Garden
Nanny McPhee
Jungle Book
Tarzan (but with a couple of fast forwards)
Oliver (except bit where Bill kills Nancy)

chunglimum · 01/11/2008 23:08

The Snowman - just lovely and a tiny bit sad.

HappyandEiknowit · 01/11/2008 23:11

my DD is nearly 3 and loves her dvds!!

her faves recently are wallace and gromit, babe, mary poppins, shrek, wizard of oz and dr dolittle

others that she has tried have been dumbo, chicken run, pocahontas, and a few barney dvds

xx ei xx

spring2life · 01/11/2008 23:19

jungle book and toy story are the current hit with my ds who is 3 and a half

naomi83 · 02/11/2008 14:27

barney is fab, no scary bits whatsoever and she'll learn/get to sing nursery rhymes and sharing etc, my son is obsessed, but you should know it'll completely do your head in!

GColdtimer · 02/11/2008 14:36

Jungle Book is the top favourite, followed by cinderella. She also loves Alice in Wonderland, The forgotten toys, The Fox and the Hounds, and Aristocats.

To be honest, most Disney films have something scary in them!

beforesunrise · 02/11/2008 19:46

littlelamb- my dd is also terrified of the cat in cinderella! in fact she only likes the mice :-)

she is hugely into Dumbo right now. it is a bit sad when the mum gets locked up, but she gets over it

ohdearwhatamess · 02/11/2008 21:40

Cars (although that might be a boy thing) and it is very irritating imo.

Sound of Music? My nieces have all loved that from a very young age (my ds not keen though).

glamourbadger · 03/11/2008 19:36

Thanks much for all the recommendations. Glad mine aren't the only scary cats! I have to sit poised to skip "the chicken man" in Toy Story 2 or "the scary baddy lady" in Sleeping Beauty! Will definitely check out a few of these.

Lol Hmm, it may be an urban myth but the word is that the American military use Barney to torture, sorry aid their interrogation, of their prisoners!
