Thinking of getting Karlstad. Any experiences?

I've had an old style and the Ektorp. The old one is 13 years old and it's still fine but filthy as it had non removable covers. the Ektorp one is fab and has washable covers. In fact, I've just bought new covers for it (4 years on) and they now look like new sofas (and the old covers happened to fit the shabby sofa so a win all round!)

Dragonbutter · 23/10/2008 23:01

another vote for the ektorp from me

SnoopDog · 23/10/2008 23:06

have the ektorp corner sofa,

good value,

5 years still going strong,

have new covers 2 years ago,

washable, dog and baby friendly

We have one that was in DHs old house when he bought it six and a half years ago, and although one of the legs is wonky, and the covers are getting a bit threadbare under the cushions where they are rubbing on the frame, it is still very comfy and in great condition.

We can't get replacement covers for it though but plan to replace it and our other sofa with Ektorp sofas or similar in a few years time

hey snoop....

SnoopDog · 23/10/2008 23:19

there is a whole thread asking for you daisy

Leeza2 · 23/10/2008 23:22

we have had a leather ektorp for 5 years and it looks good as new. and i have have 3 messy kids and one messier DH. sadly he doesn't look as good as he did 5 years ago

Flum · 23/10/2008 23:22

My parents have the Ektorp it is comfy but doesn't look very good quality.

I do fancy a corner one for our sitting room though, so I could lounge on DH and we both get to put our feet up. At the mo we have a sofa each!!

LackaDAISYcal · 23/10/2008 23:40

where......

MrsGokWan · 24/10/2008 00:20

Luuuurve my Ikea sofa's. Very comfy and look like new. Just wash the covers when needed.

janmoomoo · 24/10/2008 09:39

Thanks all, sounds like it might survive my house then! I currently have one from furniture village - two years old and its knackered.

sorry to hijack but..

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween....we've got one about 9 yrs old that has lasted really well..two small children later...it's also been to Australia and back and survived...but can you remember the name of your old one cause the covers for ours are unobtainable (sofa's discontinued)..so it'd be interesting if Ektorp covers do indeed fit

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 24/10/2008 13:04

Er... Annerberg - it says so on the label in the cushions . It looked like the Ektorp but instead of having the flat shaped back cushions, it had 3 large square loose cushions (which I had to buy non-matching covers for but it looks fine).

The seat covers from Ektorp fit perfectly and the big cover fits a little loosely but infinitely better than the crud encrusted mildly grubby cover underneath

MissisBoot · 26/10/2008 16:43

you can get sofa covers from www.bemz.com for some discontinued ikea sofas.

I haven't used them yet so can't comment on what they're like, but our sofa is discontinued and looking a little worse for wear 5 years on... although still pretty comfy and has been the only sofa in the house so has had a lot of use!

TheOriginalXENA · 26/10/2008 16:50

ohh our one has not worn well at all... am jealous of those that have!

VoteforGoat · 17/02/2009 12:42

did you get a karlstad in the end?

janmoomoo · 18/02/2009 21:56

Yes I got the Karlstad and it was absolute crap. Legs didnt go on properly, padding was thin on arms and it was quite hard to sit on. Just looked cheap IMO. Took it back and managed to get full refund.
