after a dyson what might be the best vacuum for a little house with a hairy dog?

I open to suggestions of the dyson variety but the dysons I have used have been too big and bulky.

I have a pokey cottage - hard floors and carpets and lots of cobwebs.

Thanks.

Dyson animal telescope cylinder is really small and packs away neatly.

We got out cat and dog from John Lewis, but am sure there are better deals around. Also, you don't have to use the miele branded bags, you can use generic ones (I buy ours in my local hardware shop).
