Sofa covers - anyone find any that don't cost as much as a new sofa?!

I had a guy from plumbs come and quote for new covers for a 2 and 3 seat sofa and it was about £850 Has anyone found somewhere that does it cheaper/better?

We got the massive cotton decorators sheets that painters put on furniture or the floor. They really are huge but either dye well with several packs of machine dye or wash up well with only a little shrinkage.
They are about £15 each.

I know argos used to do them... Can you make some?

Unfortunately I am USELESS at sewing (wish I wasn't).
GentleOtter - that's a great idea! I was thinking more of fitted covers though.

Find a seamstress to make you some loose covers.

I have two sets for my sofa (I wangled an extra set when I bought it) in extremely dark grey velvet. They wash beautifully in the washing machine.

We got some loose fitted lineny/cotton ones from La Redoute. They don't fit exactly - they specify for two or three seater sofas, and have sort of ties at the arms and sides, but they wash like a dream and are really easy to put on again.
They freshened up our whole sitting room.
I'll look and see if i can find a link

plumandolive · 09/10/2008 12:54

It looks as if they're only available in France but they are great and good value so it may be worth trying.

hope the link works

DANCES- let us know if you can get the French Redoute to send to UK?
Are you in UK?
We got ours fomr the UK catlogue, so it's possible they'll do them again....

DANCESwithLordPsGhost · 09/10/2008 19:09

I am in UK, I'll have a look in the UK catalogue but if we really can't get them here we have friends in France who I'm sure could help out
