How do I stop my washing machine smelling musty?

I've thoroughly cleaned my washing machine out and it still smells musty. I even ran it empty on a 90 degree wash as a friend recommended but it hasn't worked. Any suggestions or tips that have worked for you ladies? (or gents?)

did you use biological washing powder to do the hot wash? apparently that's the most effective at clearing out mould and bacteria.

also have you cleaned out the drain and filter on it? there's normally instructions in the manual, there may be a build up of grunge in there.

Soda crystals in the drum on a really hot wash will help to clear the grime. Also biological powder, as LMDWTD said.

I'll try that, thanks.

Is it because I do all the kids stuff with non-bio that it smells? I can't remember it ever doing it before.

HG Service Engineer from Lakeland once a quarter.

Leave the door open every now and then.

Aldi are selling a washing machine cleaner similar to the HG one but cheaper - tried it yesterday and it worked on mine!

Yep, leave the door open. If I keep ours closed it stinks.
