Peaceful nights sleep at last with my sons cold.

My DS 3.25, has had a cold on and off all winter, (like most kids), Whenever he wakes up with a blocked nose he cried out for me. I tried Karvol, Vicks etc, they made him better but he still continued to wake up. However a few days ago I bought from boots a VIVA breathe clearly plug in vaporiser. Its cost £5 something and you have to buy refill pads which work out about 50p a night, but just wanted to let people know that for the past 2 night even though he has been full of cold, he slept well and didn't wake up. Even woke up in the morning unblocked. Hope this helps anyone.

Thanks Breeze - I too have tried most things, with little or no effect - will definitely be getting one of these!
Did discover Medised medicine tho', which also helped enormously. Same amt of paracetamol as Calpol, so good if running a temp, but also containing an anti histamine which really helped to dry up her nose overnight - also helped her sleep longer than she's slept in ages too! Can get it suitable for 3mths plus, or two yrs plus

Breeze - we too found Viva to be brilliant and decided that we would definitely pay 50p for a night's uninterrupted sleep! However, a friend who works in Boots did say that you could reuse the pads by dropping a bit of Olbas Oil onto them, but I haven't tried this out to know how many drops make a pad....(they went on 3 for 2 the very same week so we stocked up like mad things!)

Thanks Judd, we did buy some of th Olbas, it was just over £2 for a small bottle, we put about 5 drops on the pads and reused them at least 20 times and the bottle is still half full. Thanks

I bought a Boots own brand vaporiser today - I assume it's the same sort of thing as the VIVA one as it has pads soaked with menthol smelling stuff. I might be being really stupid here, but the instructions don't say how long to leave it on for - I thought it would be overnight, but it says not to use if the pad has been in for more than 10 hours. Can't see myself going in to switch it off at 6am somehow!! Is it for short bursts only, or is overnight OK?

Thanks
