Second DC due in April and buying a new car - large hatchback or family saloon?

We would mostly use the car for commuting, nursery dropoffs/pickups, weekends away. Unlikely to go on holiday in it, although it's a possibility.

So with two DCs, do we get a large hatchback (Ford Focus, Mazda3, Astra) or a family saloon (Mazda6 type thing)?

I don't subscribe to this 'we have two children so we need an estate or a people carrier' idea. We live in the city and use public transport or feet a lot.

So, MN Jury?

We have a ford focus for the 4 of us
It is absolutely big enough

thanks compo - I thought a hatch would probably be enough, but didn't want to buy one and then go 'oh damn' when DC2 arrives!

Take a look at www.carclubs.org.uk/?

Even if it's not a practical long term solution, it could be a way of trying out a medium hatch and seeing how it fits your needs.

Thanks EvelynsDad - we're already members of City Car Club, but I'm going to need to commute fairly shortly and that would work out too expensive. They mostly have small hatches (corsa type things) but we did borrow an Astra the other day which seemed about the right size, so I think we're going to go with that.

I've got my heart set on a Mazda3....
