Energy lightbulbs. Can i put one in a light with a dimmer switch for tonight?

The hall lightbulb has died and i don't have a spare.
I do have loads of energy bulbs but they all say not to be used with dimmer switch.

Is it ok for one night? It is the light the kids have left on so they can see to go to the loo. (Bathroom bulb gone too, special bulb that i didn't have money for last week!)

I don't think it will work

Even with dimmer turned up full? (I would put a normal switch in if i could! I hate that switch!)

i think it may work - you will need to turn it onfull and it might flicker. they aren't good in dimmers though.

They work but flick on if you've not got the light switched on full. I've had one in mine for about a week. Nothing bad happens, they just don't dim properly.

dh says you can put it in and it will work but you wont be able to use the dimmer

ChasingSquirrels · 28/09/2008 21:11

it is prettyeasy to replace a dimmer with a normal switch (maybe not at 9pm on a sunday night)

tortoise · 28/09/2008 21:18

Thanks, i will stick one in for tonight and buy a normal bulb tomorrow.

ChasingSquirrels I expect it is easy but i really don't want to mess with electrics or wiring in switches.
