Has anyone else had a similar problem? We have an XT (grey trim) which is in really good condition. Weve just got it down from our attic (after not using it for about 18months) for latest ds and the handles are really sticky. There isnt anything that's obviously been spoilt on them and they were fine when we put them away. The handles are dark grey hard rubber. Ive tried wiping them with washing up liquid, hot water, and tried with Jif but I think it might actually be the rubber/plastic itself. longshot really but just wondered if anyone has had a similar or same prob or had to have handlebars replaced? DH says just cover them over - but I dont want to do that!!

I have had exactly the same problem. I have not used my xt for a few weeks/months and the handles feel really sticky, almost like they've been in the sun and melted! I tried hot soapy water and its made no differance at all . i wonder whats wrong?

I think its the rubber starting to degrade - like rubber bands go sticky when they get old.

If its been in the attic over the summer its probably got very hot up there and that can damage the rubber.

You could try buying the sticky padded tape from a bike shop that you get for racer style bicycle handles & re-tape the handles...

I was just thinking my handles were a bit tacky this afternoon... My Techno is only 4 months old and only used occasionally so not exactly heavily used.

And the foam has split completely on the handle of my iCandy Apple. I'm in a sorry state when it comes to pushchair handles tbh...

The rubber "melted" off our Techno XT handles as well. I just live with ours. [scruffy old bat emoticon]

Thanks everyone. I had concluded that it must be the handles themselves and yes that's true Anarchy I hadnt thought of how hot it gets in the attic. Did you leave yours in a hot place, milky bar? Still, very annoying isnt it. I might ring up Maclaren as its just not good enough is it!!!!!!!.

My maclaren was left in the boot of the car, but isn't that where most people leave it. It doesn't mention that they shouldn't be left anywhere warm when you part with £160 for it (making it one of the most expensive lightweight buggies around)! trouble is mine is in fairly good condition overall and eventually i would like to sell it on, but wouldn't with sticky handles. I am going to get in touch with them and see what they say. will be back on and let you know the result.
