Dh and I are thinking of getting ipods for the dds for Christmas. (I can't tell you how chuffed I am that we are in a position to even consider this!!! )

Anyhoo - they will be 10 and 11. I quite like the idea of being able to listen to story CDs on there as well as music.

Can you transfer CDs onto them, or do you just download from online?

Also - there's different types aren't there? I'm guessing the ipod classic is what we're after (not bothered about video), but I'm not sure.

Do your kids around this age have them? Do they use them a lot? What should we get (and where from?)

Thank yooooo ....

Yes you can tranfer CDs onto them as well as download stuff.

I would go for an ipod nano, 8gb
here

ipod shuffle is rubbish really, can't choose what you liten to atall. not good if you have some storie on it and some music.

I love mine, and am a recent(ish) convert!

Oooh sounds good

Don't want a shuffle, certainly; nano sounds good if I can get one (well, two) at a decent price.

I think it is quite difficult to get them at anything much below the RRP.
I got mine in the Apple Store in the end, and they have a good range.
Might find somewhere that would give you a 10% discount for buying 2.
At least you can get different colours to avoid arguments.

Oh yes don't worry, I'll definitely do the colours thing!!
