Are you happy with your stairgate?

They all look the same to me
Any recommendations very welcome, as we need to get a couple pronto.
I think one without a step over bar would be safer, but are there any 'downsides' to not having a step over bar?
Thanks

lascal kiddyguard is very good, if a little more expensive.

likessleep · 22/09/2008 09:16

thanks nobodysfool and chipmunks. unfortunately i don't think we can afford the lascal one (although it looks lovely!).
nobodysfool - how did you find the fitting of that one? it looks really good, although the reviews on the mothercare website say it isn't the easiest to fit.
cheers

We didn't want to have to screw the gates into the wall. The mothercare stairgates could in theory be fitted without screwing them into the wall, but in practice we couldn't fit them securely without screwing them in.

We've gone for Lindam Easy Fit stairgates. They fit quite securely, but the locking mechanisms on several have broken and they have damaged the paintwork, quite severely in places. With hinsight, there's been little advantage to not screwing them into the wall. They do have a bar to trip over. We haven't had any real problems with this. Overall I would say they're OK, but I'm not sure I'd recommend them.

We have lindam baby gates, they are excellent. They can be lifted off completely in an emergency.

Join IKEA family (free) and theirs are very cheap. Perfectly fab and much cheaper. No bar, btw.
