Lightweight strollers and carriers - Maclaren range/Bushbaby

An age old question...

We will shortly be going to NY and Boston and I will have to spend a couple of days amusing myself and DS (7 months) while DH works.
I want to be able to explore and plan on getting a stroller (current buggy is 3 wheeler Nipper - too cumbersome for buses) and a carrier.

I'm pretty set on getting the Bush Baby carrier for carrying DS through the airport and generally on walks, etc. but am still trying to work out the stroller. Volo? Quest? Techno? Other makes?

It needs to be lightweight and easy to fold (one handed for getting on buses) but I am also wondering about seat reclining and general comfort. DS is quite solid and tall for his age so sits happily in the shop when we've tried them out but I'm concerned that he won't be able to doze off in the airport or on a long walk.

This will be our third buggy purchase so I need to get it right! All suggestions/experiences appreciated.

Daytripper!!! I have used it to travel all over (including nyc) with ds since he was about 6 mo. and it's perfect. I think the Volo doesn't go back at all and therefore wouldn't be good for sleeping in. You will find that when travelling you will want a buggy that your ds can sleep in so you don't have to go back to your hotel for his naps.

Thanks for that SofiaAmes. That's what I'd thought about the Volo but I liked the look of it! I was kind of hoping that someone would come back and say that it would be fine but DS's comfort has to come first.

I've now seen a cheap second hand Techno, but there are mixed reviews of it on here. People seem to be either very pro or really hacked off with it. It seems a be a bit more solid than the Daytripper and may a bit more snug in cold March weather?

Pushchair dilemmas... I can't believe the amount of time these things take up!

I have the techno and love it. Not sure about folding it one handed but its very coompact. We brought dd on hols with it at 9 mths and she slept in the airport and had her naps in it every day and also ate in it and then slept in the evenings while we dined. It is wonderful. We got it over the techno cos of cost but if you've seen s cheap techno it might be worth it. I think the techno just has more features but not sure if its bigger/heavier when folded. My vote for the techno anyhow.

ooops i'm sure that doesn't make sense
Friday afternoon brainfreeze !

Let me try again :
I have the QUEST and love it.......My vote for the QUEST anyhow.

I got the Quest yesterday. I think it is the newer version of the Daytripper. It seems great so far and DS was overjoyed to find himself in it. This is fantastic as he usually complains about being constrained in anything!

Only problem is he looks so grown up...

If you want a new one try www.kiddicare.com - they are the cheapest suppliers I have found and postage is free. I have a Volo and love it but ds is 16months. It wouldn't have been right for him at 7months as it isn't padded and doesn't recline for sleeps.

Gem13 · 25/02/2003 12:14

Thanks Aloha - that's where I got it from. Thank goodness, otherwise I'd have been kicking myself. It's currently one of their specials and £40 cheaper than in the shops. Delivery was fast too - ordered Friday, arrived Monday. Most impressed.

Duh, so I gave my advice after you bought it. Feel very silly.

Gem13 · 25/02/2003 12:34

Sorry Aloha - didn't mean it like that. I couldn't think how to phrase it but I wanted to reply Hopefully someone else might go via them too and be pleased with their 'bargain'
