vacuum cleaners - Dyson v Miele - to bag or not to bag that is the question????

Quite simply I need a new hoover - My Dyson needs expensive replacement parts.

I have been happy with the Dyson performance I have had it 6 years. I have looked at the best buys on Which and Miele is the clear winner but I do not like the thought of going back to bags. Changing to a bagless cylinder was so liberating after the hassle I always had so I am considering getting a Dyson again anyway.

So do I need convincing that a Miele really is worth the hassle of bags or is the Dyson perfectly acceptable? I have two cats, lots of laminate flooring and (soon) 3 children.

Please help me make my mind up as I keep going round in circles!

Hello!

We've noticed this thread is quite old and some of the product recommendations are a little out of date. After weeks of trawling the Talk boards, talking to parents and researching bestsellers, here are our trusted vacuum cleaner reviews to help you find the best vacuum cleaner on the market.

Hope this helps! Flowers

Put your old/knackered Dyson on Freecycle, ilmd

saltcod · 19/08/2008 19:37

Thanks WW. Got rid of my old Dyson on Freecycle too

Another convert here for the miele too.

My dyson packed in and decided to go for the Which! recommendation.

Have to say I love it and would never have an upright again. It's power is really good and I always have a stash of spare bags available (they don't need changing that often)

Re getting rid of your knackered Dyson, my DP (who knows there are fifty ways to save a fiver) is cannibalising it and selling the bits on e-bay. Strictly for nutters but I reckon he will clear a few quid!

Salt Cod -

At Vacuum World there is a huge variety of cheaper alternative bags to choose from - some of which I think are just as good if not better than the genuine ones!

Thanks Kitty... It was 2 years ago that I posted that message, though!! I ended up ordering some "fabric" ones on eBay... I'm still going strong on the original box of 10, so the bags definitely aren't a huge cost issue :)

Ooh great - sorry I didnt notice the date - I'll have to look at the fabric ones myself! Thanks
