Dishwasher or no DIshwasher - Be honest

Well, after years saying 'I would not have one of them given' and having a husband who does not know how to wash up (I went away last week weds to sat and came home to find the kids breakfast dishes in the sink , his excuse?, he went out and got drunk with the lads and was too hungover to do it ).

I have discovered the joys of a dishwasher, I stayed with a friend last week and used hers and it was fab. I have bought and IndesitIDL700 and now sat twiddling my thumbs waiting for it to arrive and baulking at the thought of going to wash up the few dishes I have.

What do you think of yours?

definetely yes...we do have the slimline
and there are less arguments in the house...

Gwenick · 16/02/2005 14:20

also useful for nights like Valentines night when you have the rare occurence of eating after the kids have gone to bed (rather than 'with them') and enjoy a nice meal and bottle of wine. 2 people chucking things in the dishwashers afterwards is much quicker than having to 'wash' the dishes

Juliehafrancis · 16/02/2005 14:45

I would hate not to have mine. I now think of it as an essential piece of kitchen equipment..lol

spacedonkey · 16/02/2005 14:46

I love mine. I used to eschew them, but as soon as I got one I fell in love with it.

I have always had a dishwasher, even when I lived on my own, (I had enough crockery to put the dishwasher on every 2 or 3 days).

I think it gets things cleaner than washing them by hand (certainly the way most men do it), and it's more cost effective, as ours goes on once a day, at night using econmy 7 electricity, rather than running hot water to wash pots 2 or 3 times a day.

Kelly, everything goes in ours, except our tall stemmed champagne glasses. If I've used my nice wedgewood plates, then they go in the dishwasher, we just load it a bit more carefully so things don't touch on the edges. I wouldn't put good crystal in the dishwasher to be sure, but then I wouldn't use it every day either.

I think if you get into the routine of emptying the dishwasher first thing in the morning, and stacking dirty dishes in it thru the day, so it's ready to put on as soon as you've finished a meal, it takes the stress out of that 'untidy kitchen' scenario we all know.

I would not be with out mine.

DISHWASHER QUEEN HERE! Converted in August last year and wouldnt be without it - cant remember the last time i washed a single dish!!!!

ernest · 16/02/2005 15:28

no way could I go back to life without dishwasher.

Mum offered to get one for me as wedding pressie. Told my bf & she replied, oh great, you could sell it???????????? - erm, why would I sell it? If I didn't want it I'd ask for money, plus why would anyone not want a dishwasher??? I've never understood or forgotten her bizarre comment. bless her.

Nikkichik · 16/02/2005 15:31

Had one in our old house but sadly no room for it in the flat we are renting (whilst looking for new house to buy). I really, really, really miss it, esp for all those greasy things!!! I hate washing up!!

BubblesDeVere · 18/02/2005 16:03

bambi06 · 18/07/2005 14:29

cant survive without it and wonder how the hell i ever managed wasting my time washing up before..lol

aloha · 18/07/2005 14:32

love, love, love my dishwasher. House fell into slum-like conditions without one.

Hulababy · 18/07/2005 14:34

We have had a dishwasher for 2 years now, and wouldn't be without it now. Infact we have been house looking recently and we immediately reject any houses where there is either no dishwasher or nowhere to put a dishwasher on moving in.

tarantula · 18/07/2005 14:37

Ohhhh I really love my dishwasher. Hes also good at cooking, hoovering, wahsing and general housework and cheap at twice the price (well a couple of 6 packs a week is quite resonable IMO)

Aero · 18/07/2005 14:52

Definitely get one - I wouldn't be without ours and my policy is 'if it shouldn't go in the dishwasher, it doesn't get used!'

peaceandlight · 18/07/2005 14:55

got mine a few weeks ago and totally love it. No more dirty opots hanging around making the place look a mess!

BarefootMama · 18/07/2005 14:56

My life CHANGED when we got ours- order it now!

mancmum · 18/07/2005 14:56

love mine would not be without it am total convert after years of berating people for using them... love love love the damn thing!

strugstu · 18/07/2005 15:24

Dishwasher, how the hell did I live without one?

expatinscotland · 18/07/2005 15:31

Dishwasher. I had one in the past, and I used to moan about emptying it. Well, those days are long gone and I got mine for moaning about emptying it.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 18/07/2005 15:32

Couldnt be without mine
