DP is plumber and here is his humble opinion:

Buy the cheapest WHITE suite you can buy.
Buy expensive taps and tiles to jazz it up.

You can get a decent suite at any B and Q quite cheap I think.

Plus if your dp is fitting it and doing the tiling, you should have NO problems coming in at £600

lilymolly · 14/08/2008 10:51

tell dp to go to plumb centre or PTS or travis perkins etc- All much more likely to get trade prices

screwfix do cheap bathroom suites for around £200.

Alsi are about to sell some white suites. Look on their website
I don't think they will sell the bath but they are selling weveryting else
I think the toliet is about 50, the sink about 35. Not sure about the taps
They are very cheap though. You could then get cheap bath from b and q

I bought my suite for £169 from B&Q back in January, it was in the sale so had 30% off but included the taps, toilet, bath, sink, and bath panel.

The taps are basic but look nice, I didn't really want high fashion ones anyway as they date quickly. My reasoning behing this was that a basic bathroom suite is fairly standard, we can but new taps to dress it up in a few years if needs be.

We bought this one:

www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_secondid=9295909&fh_view_size=6&fh_eds=%3f&fh_lo cation=%2f%2fcatalog01%2fenGB%2fcategories%3c%7b10052%7d%2fcategories%3c%7b10054%7d%2fcategories%3c %7b8960055%7d%2fspecificationsProductType%3dtakeawaysuites%2fstyleStyle%3e%7bnuveo%7d&fhrefview=l ister&ts=1218718787528&isSearch=false

We haven't used the bath panel though, preferred to use wood panelling as it looks nicer.

where are you nemo - i'm a interior designer working in london, so can send you links to good, cheap places. you should be able to get a bath and toilet for £55 each. and i've used this sink: impulsebathrooms.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/monica-b.jpg
for a couple of lower budget jobs recently (its about £50) but without the pedestal which i think is ugly. its a good sink because its quite roomy (good for handwashing clothes, and many children brushing teeth simultaneously) and also is elegant but neither too contemp or old fashioned - pleases everyone. if you dont have the pedestal then you sould need a bottle trap, eg: www.tapstore.com/acatalog/1.html?gclid=CMT-qti1jZUCFQ2L1QodBDr5fQ
which will halp the room feel spacious, modern and "expensive"

also - i would buy a cheap white suite, and cheap white tiles, but bricklay them (ie stagger them) using a dove grey grout - looks really good. like this - but with square tiles:
www.livingetc.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=2540

then spend the rest on the taps.

these are good, and i can get a good discount - www.taps4less.com/PP/U-PY304.html

finally, a good trick if you need to dress the window, is to just use glass etc film - easy to apply and much cheaper than replacing glass: www.abodewindowfilms.co.uk/acatalog/Window_Film_opal_Frosted.html

the 'Madrid' takeaway suite from B&Q has excellent taps inc a lovely swan neck mixer on the basin and isn't expensive.
