Unlocking a mobile phone

I wonder if a Mumsnetter will be able to enlighten me....
I have received a mobile phone from my mum... it?s her old one... it is an Alcatel one from Orange.... Anway I tried to make it work but Orange says I have to have it unlocked... they gave me someone?s address for that who then told me they didn?t do Alcatel anymore... so where do I go next?
Thanks

I think mobile phone shops can do this - my cousin's son works in one, and he bought an "unlocker" (don't know technical term) which he uses for his friends phones - don't know if you need different ones for different phones.
Does this make any sense? Sorry if not!

pupuce, I forget, are you in london? These guys will unlock most mobiles for £5,but you have to meet up with them in person in SW London. Their email address is: [email protected]

Send them an email letting them know what phone you have and they will let you know whether they can unlock it for you.

Just to update you... I did contact your guys Sofiaames... they were nice and helpful but at the end of the day I finally discovered that it had to be unlocked by Orange in France... so forget that - I just bought my first mobile....
Thanks for your replies

Call your service provider (t-mobile?,vodaphone?, 02?) they should be able to sort you out.
