Our wooden railway is an accumulation of at least 5 different brands.

This range is well made, have used it.

Usually before Christmas there will be a cheap Eichhorn set at Lidl, German made.

Tesco, if they still do it, are great for basics and a good fit to Brio.

TK Maxx often have Brio specials half price (a zoo train set was in ours for ages)

MASSES on ebay too

Eventually you come across pieces that are a tight fit between different brands but there is usually some way of bodging around it.

Thanks for that blithedance.
Will keep a look out for the lidl one and checkout my local tkmaxx, although I can't usually bear it in there. That website looks good!

If you are looking for the little toddler size brio railways this place is reasonable priced. Also they used to have a mumsnet discount code 'mumsnet' , I think it is still valid for 5% off.

cheers
