Would prefer something a little 'funkier' than a maclaren, but something umbrella fold for new babies.

How about a mamas and papas pliko or pliko switch?

Umbrella folding but still sturdy and padded for a newborn

here is the pliko

here is the pliko switch

Ok so more of a pushchair than a stroller but still umbrella folding ...

M&P Ziko?? I've just bought one, but secondhand, overpriced new. Otherwise I would say maclaren all the way. I like the new spitfire ltd edition!

it is not umbrella fold but we have one of these which I find much easier and smaller to fold than our umbrella fold graco. I love it and it is suitable from birth as it has a fold flat recline.

Baby Jogger City Mini Stroller

click on "see the single in action" to see how it folds, I haven't seen another one quite like it.

forgot to say aswell that i got mine new on ebay for about £100 so cheaper than a lot of the others

I also wanted a stroller type/umbrella fold for a newborn. Criteria being light weight so easy to use with car.
I wasn't interested in a travel system as I assume I'll want to get them in a lightweight cheapy stroller from about 6 months anyway.

I was surprised how many newborn suitable strollers only come in pink or blue - I don't know what my sex baby is yet.

After much much much looking and stalking a new mum into a shop to quiz her about her push chair, I finally found one.

Its a toys-r-us own brand i love my bear stroller. It goes flat so suitable from birth, comes with rain cover & free footmuff in a beige colour £90 - bargain.

I've got it home & had a good play putting it up & down. The breaks are a bit plastic-y but overall I'm really happy.
Baby due in a month so will find out properly then.

Good luck
