Cheap brown-skinned doll (not a Barbie sidekick) that I can use to top a princess cake?

I'm thinking of trying the bowl-shaped-cake-as-skirt thing with a doll stuck in the top - the DDs haven't got sucked into the whole Barbie thing YET so am postponing that as long as possible - what else is out there?

Brown skin and dark hair essential

not dark enough I don;t think

scary!

would the wooden dolls' house type dolls be any good? ELC has an Indian family...

franch · 24/07/2008 21:01

Woah! Hi again MrsB

I'm thinking of using your blue buttercream idea to cover the skirt, and then plastering it with sparkly sprinkles and sugar flowers - might look a bit amateur but hey

It needs to be barbie-sized I think, so I can stick the legs down into the cake

It's a fairytale themed party but I'll be quite happy to go with the number-3 shaped cake with girly decorations (blue, not pink - DD2 is most definite on that )

Hmm I know I said no Barbie but I'm sorely tempted by this because of the fab hair ...

Franch - take the legs off the barbie, did a hole in the top the cake and stick in up to the waist with icing - don't dig the legs in or it will collapse.

LIZS · 24/07/2008 21:21

pound shop ? I made a cake with a hole in centre using a tin like this from Tchibo. then stuck a cheapy dolly in middle and iced.

franch · 24/07/2008 21:32

Wow that's an interesting tin Lizs - does it make a doughnut-shaped cake? Do you have to get the right sized doll or it falls down the middle?!

Great tip Kbear, many thanks (unless I use Lizs's magic tin that is!)

But what about the doll?

Most dolls - even 'ethnic' ones - have long straight hair which is why I do love the ebay afro one ...

Yes it comes out a ring shape ! You can fit the doll(roughly a Barbie height) down the middle and if too small just put some screwed up foil down to raise it up . You can get push-in doll bodies for cakes too but not seen an ethnic one.

Bought the ebay one for 99p

What kind of icing do you all use?

I prob need to start a new thread about this.

Do I need a special tin, Lizs, or should I just use a big heatproof bowl?

The bloomin ebay doll didn't arrive so I'm back to square one

this one?

franch · 11/08/2008 22:07

Bloody hell Califrau those pictures are all waaaaay beyond my abilities. Some of them look like the bodice of the dress is made with icing too ...?

Oh I wasn't planning to pipe!

"artfully" - now there's my stumbling block

ThatBigGermanPrison · 11/08/2008 22:12

Try po9undland - they have alsorts in!

franch · 11/08/2008 22:17

No poundland near here

Have put a bid on another ebay one - not afro hair sadly but an ethnic princess so has a tiara and nice lilac dress - I guess even if I take her legs off I can stuff the dress down into the cake or even butcher it (don't fancy making a bodice out of icing)
