DS is nearly 8 months, and fascinated by dolls. He has loads of teddys, but I want to get him a nice doll - he loves the ones at coffee mornings!
I would really like a wooden doll, with a cloth body, but failing that a rag doll. Around 25 cm tall - certainly not more than 30cm, or we won't be able to put it in the buggy along with ds. Preferably a blond boy doll, not too girly or dh will veto it.
I've searched, but can't find anything - can anyone help me?

LookattheLottie · 19/07/2008 01:45

'Jake!'

I made my children rag dolls from Nicole Ellison patterns- here. They absolutely love them.
She will make them to order.

sushistar · 19/07/2008 01:58

Lottie, loving the sailors, might get them...
Pinky, sorry, but those dolls are strange! I think i must be a traditionalist when it comes to dolls

Oh they're gorgeous aren't they! Might have a look to see if they've got any lady sailors lol for dd! And they seem to be very reasonable, especially if you're getting two.

He's a great doll for california!
I've decided against the sailors - I don't want sailors, I want a boy with normal clothes and blonde hair I think.
Hmmm, I might have to get the sewing machine out...

ahh they are primitive dolls.

Etsy has quite a few. This one is sweet

PInkyminkyohnooo · 19/07/2008 02:13

I would make him myself, if you enjoy it.

PInkyminkyohnooo · 19/07/2008 02:15

sushistar · 19/07/2008 02:16

I like those first ones Pinky! That looks just right. I'ss see if I get a minute to make him one, but if not I'll get one of those. Thanks!

well they are a style of raggedy ann/andy doll that is evocative of the old American handmade dolls, especially from the 1930's upwards, and they are meant to look old and preloved.

I would go for a cloth doll. DS has a very old inherited wooden japanese doll that has to be put out of reach as it does become a bit of a lethal weapon at times.

PInkyminkyohnooo · 19/07/2008 02:29

hehe I like the quirky dolls. You can get some really freaky ones. I think you definitely want a nice traditional rag doll.. shame the mamas and papas site doesn't have a boy one, their girl ones are very sweet

sushistar · 19/07/2008 02:55

She's lovely. Yes, I think I'd be too scared of those other dolls even if ds liked them!

Myriad do some really nice ones but they can be expensive. There is a lovely night time doll in the bath and bed section.
