Scalpers emptying shelves to sell on vinted

Basically as the title reads. Im so tired of this now.
Started with Kevin the carrot toys really, I remember battling queues just to get one toy.
What has made me angry today is seeing Asda christmas shelves empty of all the Home Alone items and disney ornaments. Just wanted 1 item and people buying ten of each. Checked vinted and yes I was right. A 4 quid decoration double the price.
Its really unfair for those of us who just want one thing and to find people bulk buying them.
Grrrrr. Im just miffed.

So they’re making £4 😬 All I can do is feel sorry for how hard people are finding life that they’re doing that.

its also a massive risk, they could be left with any toys or gifts they buy if they don’t sell them.

I couldn’t afford to take that risk so I assume people are getting desperate to make £4

Franjipanl8r · Today 18:19

Gosh that’s sad.

TFImBackIn · Today 18:19

Not really, laurie - they have the receipt and can just get their money back.

LaurieFairyCake · Today 18:20

Well I assume they will keep them and keep trying to sell them right up till Christmas ? Way past the return date

Mungo67 · Today 18:22

Vinted full of the £15 Asda bunnies for £75 and £80. Horrible to do that

Arbourimage · Today 18:23

I can’t say it bothers me, buying something because it’s “viral” is stupid anyway so if someone wants to pay 3 times the price to get their hands on a piece of B&M tat more fool them.
I really don’t see how it’s different from the shop selling it to begin with.

Error404FucksNotFound · Today 18:23

If people stopped buying them they'd stop doing it.

EMUKE · Today 18:24

I do feel this is the world we live in now. A lot of social extremes from reselling to the want of wanting something because it’s gone viral. We have become very receptive to marketing and advertising. Unfortunately we do live in a society that will pay over the odds for something that they/someone wants. That paired with the financial crisis people are picking up side hustles to try and make a few extra £.

OffWith · Today 18:24

The only way to stop them is to decide that you will not buy anything from a scalper, no matter how much you or a dc want it.

We already do that, because I cannot stand being ripped off.

Yes the bunny as well!

I know people are trying to earn some extra cash I get it, the shelves today looked like the January sales had just ended. Bits of broken ornaments where people have been careless.
Im being extra sensitive lately so normally it wouldn't bother me too much.

Its not new always been this way with ebay. Thats why the government started taxing it because people used to make a fair bit of profit.

HobgoblinNorFoulFiend · Today 18:37

A thing is worth what someone is willing to pay. Thats how capitalism works. Don’t need it, don’t want it, think it’s a load of crap that’s how Christmas tat threads work. There’s very little difference between the two imo.

It's hardly a 'massive' risk, if they don't sell well they can just return them.

LaurieFairyCake · Today 18:46

Well they can’t return them after 28 days in most shops so they’re going to get landed with them past Christmas

  • Asda copy a Jellycat bunny and sell it for a bargain £15
  • People buy up the £15 bunnies and advertise them on Vinted for the same price as a Jellycat bunny.
  • For some unfathomable reason people buy the price-inflated Asda bunnies from the Vinted sellers, rather than simply buying an original Jellycat bunny.

Insane.

Toomanysofttoys · Today 18:56

The asda bunny looks nothing like a jellycat bunny either.

I just feel sorry for those on tight budgets when their child wants something that sadly has gone viral.

Honestly who cares. Someone bought it before you. Thats the ropes.

Scalpers are often trying to make money to feed their families too…

They're not even going to be making £4, whether they know that yet or not. I've heard HMRC now has the technology to know who is selling what and where. The side-hussles that aren't really a business have ruined it for everyone. Now whether you're selling as an unofficial unregistered business or just clearing out your unwanted personal possessions, there's a limit to what you can make and after that you'll be taxed on it as income.

Found the callous, morally fluid, and shady AF scalper.
