Looking for something to store professional certificates in

I’d like a nice folder to take with me on an upcoming interview, and just to generally stipe things like my degree and other certificates. I’ve seen some lovely soft leaflet envelope style folders, but think it’ll look odd with them all just being loose inside? Plus it’s maybe not very sturdy for storage? They’re currently just in polypockets and don’t look as nice!

My first thought was one of these (National Record of Achievement folder in case the pic fails to attach), but that's showing my age!

You need a smart presentation folder with a nice cover and attached polypockets inside. Good luck finding the right one for you - there seem to be some nice choices out there.

Why? What kind of job is it? I am fairly senior and if someone brought a binder in with their certificates without being asked we probably wouldn’t give them the job, I have never seen anyone do that.

Just list your certificates on your cv, well relevant ones, and probably not the free ones you got from LinkedIn etc.

You have to be careful with the burgundy NROA folders as the plastic sleeves are so tight they can take the text off the certificates and they rub over time. I’ve taken all mine out for this reason.

It’s a teaching position, I’m taking my degree certificate, my leadership NPQ certificate and my teaching certificate. Plus they’ve asked for ID and letters to do a background check. I’m not taking my certificates for tap dancing in.

Do people not bring the certificates listed on their CV to you? I’ve been to interviews before and they’ve asked to take my certificates from me, wouldn’t want to say I hadn’t brought them with me. plus if I have something nice, I could store them in there for safety.

I do have a record of achievement too! So something like that would be good, as they were sturdy, but the ink transferred off things I put in there and stained the pockets. I’ve still got my school report in it 😂

Me too, and yes you can read the report on the sleeves where the ink has lifted off!

Mine are in a folder like this https://www.viking-direct.co.uk/en/viking-display-books-a4-20-pocket-black-p-1437705?queryID=9433970132b0cf6fc293ddff9eaf4175

I haven't been asked to show a certificate at a job interview for about 20 years though (somewhere that wanted proof of GCSE English and Maths even though I had a degree 🤷). I have interviewed people in recent years, and the only time I've seen people bring them was youngsters coming for their first job.

Personally I'd just take the documents they've asked for. Or if you feel better taking the rest, do, but keep them in your bag unless asked for.

I don't think it's a strange idea, I was asked to bring certificates a few years ago when I last interviewed. I just used a plastic wallet from rymans, but it was in my bag.
dh has a zip up leather folder for his as that's all he takes with him.

I interview regularly and I’ve never asked anyone for a paper copy of their certificates at an interview. The process is that normally online copies are submitted if requested by HR during the screening/onboarding process.

You probably wouldn’t give them the job if they had been organised enough to prepare evidence of their qualifications in case they were asked, even if they were your strongest candidate?

I don’t understand this at all, what is the rationale here?

It’s quite normal in teaching to take certificates to an interview. The office need to see the original and take a copy for enhanced DBS and barred list checks. It’s a legal requirement for any job working with children or vulnerable adults and speeds up what can be a lengthy process if it’s done there and then. I’d just get a plastic folder with pockets inside. Good luck with the interview.

Teaching interviews are different they will normally expect paper copies that they photocopy on the day and hand you back, or at least that's what I've seen happen.

Yeah whenever I’ve interviewed people in school, they hand their documents to HR and copies are made. I don’t actually look at them myself as an interviewer, but they’re expected.

I’m not sure why people are replying as if I’m just bringing random certificates that haven’t been requested. May just sneak my certificate in from when I could pick up a brick from the bottom of the pool while wearing pyjamas.

I also don’t get this, and so think probably not true, but there’s always someone on here who likes to be contrarian. Firstly, I’m bringing certificates I’ve been asked for, but secondly why in earth would someone not get a job for bringing proof of their qualifications? Do people really not need to show certificates at job interviews? I may as well stop teaching kids how to pass their exams and just tell them to whack it on their cv and no one will ever check.
