They're hard to get books onto. You can't put amazon ebooks on there. You need to purchase ebooks from places that don't put DRM on the ebooks

I wanted one until it said i had to plug it into a computer to get books on it, just download the kindle app on your phone/tablet, no need for faffing around with sd cards and computers.

Couldn’t you put the kindle app on your phone for free and buy books as and when you need them. I have a big kindle I generally use but I also have the app on my phone for when I don’t want to carry my kindle around with me.

My Kindle fits in the back pocket of my jeans and a small shoulder bag anyway. If budget is an issue, I think I'd be more inclined to buy a second hand one than a brand new alternative that has less functionality.

Save up for a Kobo and get books and newspapers/magazines for free via the library app (Borrowbox and/or Libby). Why buy books when you have that massive and free inventory!

I don’t buy them. My whole library is DRM free!

Just put the relevant apps on your phone if you want something small. I've got the Kindle app, Libby, Kobo and Borrowbox on my phone and it's much handier than having to remember to charge another phone-sized gadget and everything loads straight from the retailer/library without any hassle.
