one of these? Are they as brilliant as their massive price tag would indicate??

Thanks!

I honestly can't imagine it would be any more likely to be knocked over than any other pushchair. In fact, I think it would be more noticeable and so less likely to be walked into.

NotQuiteCockney · 30/01/2005 20:23

I'm sure it's really stable, and nice to push, Stokke know what they're doing. It is funny-looking, though.

Bugaboo frogs are everywhere here, too. I do like that they come in all sorts of different colours and patterns. But not enough to get one!

charleypops · 30/01/2005 22:02

I must say I do like the look of the Stokkes, and I love the way the seat seems so adaptable and is nice and high. I'm sure in a few years there'll be loads of things around like that - I couldn't believe how many Bugaboos there were around today - Like I said, I saw 12 today and that was only in the space of about 1 hour.

There's a new pneumatic action Quinny Buzz thingy that John Lewis are leading with from next week that are a similar kind of thing (to the Stokke). Just been talking to my friend, however who knows what my lifestyle's like and she reckons I'd be better off with a 3 wheeler after all (I go "off roading" everyday with the doggie), as small wheels are likely to get stuck. So I've been re-visiting those. There's a new Jane "Slalom" which looks interesting....

ooo, I'm so fickle

what was the fault on the jane pushchair?

charleypops · 30/01/2005 22:09

Oh no! What's the fault?

I had a look at the e3's and I really like them, but I would've really preferred something that can face me - also I don't think they come with a carrycot which I will need?

spod · 30/01/2005 22:10

what jane pushchair? not the 360 powertrack i hope, i love mine!

acnebride · 30/01/2005 22:11

friend has a stokke, i think it looks brilliant tho have never tried it.

love that baby is high up and faces you, it is superadjustable, and i think it looks a lot sturdier than my maclaren quest.

Loathe ds being so low down in the quest. its great plus is the folding up. might sabotage my quest so that if i have another i can buy a stokke

charleypops · 30/01/2005 22:11

Davros, I looked at the Micralite, I did like the way it looked, but again, can't face me and don't think that one has a carrycot either

you don't need a carrycot if a pushchair is suitable from birth

charleypops · 30/01/2005 22:17

Acne - you are naughty!!

I need a lie-flat carrier though because I will be out and about a lot ( I sometimes go spend the day with dp where he works) and it's not recommended for new-borns to not be lying horizontally for any more than a couple of hours. It needs to be somewhere baby can sleep now and again too.

This is why I liked the Jane - they have a lie-flat car seat which can be attached to the chassis.

But what I want to know, is the middle part plastic? I wouldn't spend that much on a hunk of plastic. At least the buggaboo is metal, but imo it doesn't look like it would old a 3 year old. The fabric seat looks like it would wear out after awhile. I stand by the maclaren, good value and it lasts and lasts.

Davros · 30/01/2005 22:31

I like the look of the Stokke but the lack of shopping space would drive me mad. Totally believe in newborns lying flat, preferably in fairly sturdy carrycot-type thing (even though I never took it off) as better insulated against sound and cold. Bit of an old bag on that point!

misdee · 30/01/2005 22:34

i have a pram for the baby as well as the e3. need matress for the pram tho.

spod · 30/01/2005 22:35

lockets... whats the fault?

jibberjabber · 30/01/2005 22:36

Looks like I am in the minority here

I have an Xplory, have had it for just a week now and don't know how I coped without it. It is a dream to push, I can push and steer with a couple of fingers whilst taking a huge Weimaraner for walkies at the same time which I haven't been able to do with any other chair I have tried. And I attach the dog to the 'spine' of the pram and it is very stable, there's no risk of it being knocked over. Although it handles very well it is quite heavy.

I suffer from a bad back and there's no bending over etc so it's fine in that respect.

My baby who is 8 months has NEVER slept in any kind of baby transport and last week I was gobsmacked that he was snoozing in his, so it was worth it just for a bit of peace when we go out.He also hated shopping and would scream at the top of his lungs if I had to queue etc but now he finds it hilarious and can usually be found babbling to the sales assistants or anyone else on his level.

The downside is the reaction. People literally stop, spin around and mostly laugh which I now actually find quite funny too. I think it's not surprising, it's the reaction you'd expect for something that looks so different. Have been stunned by the male reaction. Lots of guys asking what it is etc.

So I love mine and find there's enough room to pack his changing stuff, my stuff and the daily groceries in the shopping bag.

PS I don't work for Stokke, ok.

Portree · 30/01/2005 22:41

Charleypops, I've got a Jane 360 (with matrix, though ds has outgrown that now) and it's been fab. The lie flat seat was one of the major influences for my decision. It's had a real battering, been on several flights and still looks as good as new. Not too heavy either.

I'm in Kingston a lot so I know about the abundance of Bugaboo frogs, they are everywhere. I've seen a couple of Stokkes in Kingston and I always have to do a double take. Lack of basket would put me off though you can't get that much in the Jane.

I couldn't get all the features I wanted in one pushchair when I was choosing so have a Maclaren triumph too and I absolutely hate it - so flimsy in comparison - I rarely use it.

jibberjabber · 30/01/2005 22:41

Wasn't there a fault with the Jane lie down flat car seat. I think I read it on here.None of the lie flat seats passed some kind of safety test???

Try the archived msgs.

Portree · 30/01/2005 22:45

I know there's a thread on the Matrix and safety and IIRC it wasn't tested in the last round of testing as it hadn't been changed in any way from the previous tests. Think it came out OK in previous tests. The M + P Navetta got slated though. Think there have been a few ruffled threads on the subject.

i think there something on it here carseats

charleypops · 30/01/2005 23:03

Davros, I must an old bag too because if I had the money and the space, I'd get one of those gorgeous old fashioned silvercross coach built prams that cost about £7/800 from Harrods!

Misdee - I'm trying to avoid getting more than one pram, that's why I don't mind if it costs a bit more to begin with - we just don't have any storage space left as it is

Jibberjabber - i did notice the Stokke was the only recommended pushchair on a bad back website today, and it did make sense to me (I suffer from an old lifting injury now and again). I can imagine your Stokke causing a bit of a stir - I remember when Bugaboos did that a year or two ago, now they're all over the place. Is it any good off road (ie country lanes that sometimes get a bit squishy in the rain?)

As to the Matrix's safety - I think there was a Which? report that failed all the lie-flat carrycots that you could attach in the car. I think the Jane Matrix, however, passed lots of tests with flying colours as it is a proper car seat rather than just a carrycot.

Portree - it's good to hear you don't find yourself using your Triumph much - a few people have told me I'd find the Jane 3 wheeler too cumbersome and would end up using a lighweight umbrella type stroller instead.

Lockets - I've been looking today (on line anyway) at the new version of the Jane Pwertrack 360, it's called the Slalom, and has a brand new front wheel, so hopefully there won't be any problems with this one. Not heard about that problem though myself - at least they're guaranteed!

misdee · 30/01/2005 23:07

i'd love a silver cross pushchair. if i had space and it was perfecft for me i'd get one lol.

but theres an stokke one on ebay

i dont know what the price comparison is like tho.

jibberjabber · 30/01/2005 23:08

Charley - it's not brilliant on 'rough' terrain I must say. Does do grass and squelchy mud, dog hurls us through enough of that. the wheels are solid, not inflated and although it offers a really smooth town ride I doubt it would be able to cope with more country walking than urban. IMO.
