Rain clothes

I have 3 young boys and need some excellent wet weather gear so we can get outside all winter. We live in Cornwall. I’m looking for the perfect solution for rainy windy days - for a 3yo and 5yo…and me included. Any suggestions?

I also wanted to ask this as wondering between the dungarees style and a coat and a onesie style. So thanks for asking and I await your replies! I’ve heard the dungarees style are better for being more waterproof?

Dungarees and coat is better for potty training etc especially the kind with detachable straps so you can have the bottom half just be trousers. Polar O Pyret is the gold standard for longevity though expensive. I also liked Muddy Puddles which is less expensive. My DC went to forest nursery in all weathers so thier gear was really tested. Most of the kids there were in POP.

This is good to know. We’ve had good experience with fleece lined dungarees with rubberised outer - and fleece lined croc wellies and a rubberised coat historically. But they have been passed to us, and I struggle to know where to buy the rubberised rain gear especially with a nice fleecy lining?

Keep an eye on lidl as they sell the rubbery ones. 2 pieces and dungarees style. As a childminder, we've used regatta puddle suits aswell

Lidl do a good coat and matching trouser set but I’m not sure when they’ll have them next

Danikm151 · 23/08/2026 22:00

Was about to say lidl but others have mentioned it.
For those ages hop on vinted or eBay there will always been people selling stuff their kids have outgrown

We had some regatta stuff and some outfits from the local garden centre when ours was little.

I found the all in one puddle suit style were tricky once my kids were potty trained as it made it hard for them to go to the toilet easily so I opted for seperate trousers and coat. Also means the coat can be used on its own if you only need a coat on a given day.

The JoJo Mamam Bebe waterproof dungarees are good if you want dungarees type trousers.

For several years now my two have had the Berghaus waterproof trousers and coats. I get them from Go Outdoors/Millets and they are often on sale. I opted for the 3 in 1 coats this year so they can wear them year round. The fleeces are really soft and snuggly.

Once my oldest outgrows them, they go to the youngest as they tend to be very hard wearing and even once my youngest has outgrown them they can be passed on/sold. The trousers and coat my youngest is wearing now, we’ve had for 6 years!

Another vote for the fleece-lined Lidl dungarees, I’ve had a few pairs between my boys and they’ve been brilliant. Decathlon has also been good for warm waterproof coats, not expensive.

Wet Wednesday have my vote every time for winter outdoor time. Properly waterproof and breathable. They last forever as well and don't need washing to clean, so can confidently buy second hand on vinted although they also have very decent sales. Lidl also very good but it's so random when and what is stocked.

Dungarees are better for shoulder season when the ground is wet but it's not raining, but mine choose all in ones every time when it's cold. I just taught mine to stand and pee so no issues with potty training. I would get unlined dungarees on fleece lined all in ones.

God i loved those puddlesuit days! Make the most of them OP, it's a gorgeous time!

Rains clothing for adults is excellent and there are many Ebay etc bargains to be had. I think we were mostly Lidl for DD.
