Have finally whittled it down to these 3... which is the best???Need a buggy that will suit a 2 and a half year old and a new born and cope with narrow streets and 3 deep steps to climb... Thanks for help. My brain has gone into pregnancy meltdown and can't make a sensible decision!

I have a similar age gap and a narrow doorway and 7 steps up to my house - my Phil & Teds is fantastic.

Another vote for Phil and Teds. My advice would be to try them all out with your first child sitting in them. I was really keen on the Powertwin until we sat ds1 in the front seat. His knees were up round his ears, the seat was so low compared to the foot rest, and he pulled the hood off far too easily. I was really disappointed with the quality cpmpared to the P&T.

Forgot to mention ds1 is also 2.5 and not particularly tall.

Am just about to order a P&T and have a smiliar gap to you, what I like about it is that it can go from single to double and back again.

I have an 18 month gap between my first two and have a Twin Aria side by side (rubbish) and a Graco Stadium (not much better but better) 2 friends had Jane Powertwins and got rid of them.

We have P&T with dcs 2.2 years and 4 months.

It can be a PITA when the baby is in the newborn position, and the toddler in the top seat (the one that later becomes the underseat). I find that I can't use the raincover or even the hood as it would sit on ds1's head, and he is very short (2.2, but height of an 18mo). He just has to get wet. Also the baby has outgorwn the bottom bit, but we can't sit up well enough to swap the seats over. Build quality is pretty poor too.

Nice to push though and good off-road.

I have a powertwin. I have twins age 5.5 months and DS1 age 2.4 years. It is very easy to push / steer / manouevre etc. Fits in boot of Golf more easily than Mclaren side by side double. I use it either with DTs in or with DS1 in front and a DT in back, with other DT in sling. Is lovely to be able to fit through any shop door, my own front door, door to nursery etc without having to unload children. Is a bit harder pushing DS1 and a DT while having one strapped on as the one strapped on gets in the way a bit, but as you wont have that issue then I would definitely recommend it (besides which, one strapped on would get in the way of any buggy pushing I imagine).

Oh and I can get up and down steps ok, although if there are more than 2 or 3 and I am out with all three DC with DS1 in buggy I do make him get out and walk up steps (going down not an issue).

I'd go for the Powertwin. Much more stylish than the Graco. Not sure I like the P&T baby in the shopping basket arrangement.

Washersaurus · 28/06/2008 15:11

Lyra - Honestly the baby is nowhere near the shopping basket when in the back seat. My 10mo sits in the back quite happily even when the shopping basket is rammed full with my Lidl shop .

Now my 3yo on the other hand does seem to fill the basket with his legs and feet when he sits in the back, but he is still very comfortable and loves to sit in there.

Ok, ok washersaurus, I believe you.
