Tracksuit bottoms tough enough for opal play

Does anyone have a child at a school that’s started doing OPAL play? I’m really struggling to find trousers for my son that can cope with it!
Decent-quality tracksuit bottoms that don’t rip or go threadbare at the knees almost instantly seem to be really expensive, and I’m also struggling to find ones with adjustable waists. My son is very skinny and tall, so if they’re long enough, they’re usually too big around the waist. He really needs the button/adjustable waistband as well as elastic, as elastic alone isn’t enough.
We used to get really cheap school trousers from the supermarkets that were perfect, they had adjustable waists AND reinforced knees, but I can’t seem to find anything similar now he needs tracksuits
I know OPAL is meant to be more cost-effective for parents, but I’m actually finding it’s costing me way more, particularly because of how quickly he gets through trousers!
Has anyone found any good, reasonably priced trousers that actually survive OPAL play? I’d be really grateful for recommendations! 🙏

Can you try adding patches to the places that seem to take the most damage?
