Toaster with slots large enough for my sliced bread

I use Jackson’s seeded sliced bread, I have to cut them in half to fit in my toaster. The toaster manufacturers publish their slot lengths which is great, but not their slot heights (i.e the maximum height the bread can be for it to get toasted at the top as well). In desperation I have now measured my bread 🤣, it’s 12cm high and 17 cm long, so I’m ideally looking for a long slotted toaster with slots that are approx 14cm high. Does anyone have such a thing ? I’m looking at the Breville Edge Deep Chassis one, does anyone have it and can they confirm the dimensions of the slots ? Yes I could change my sliced bread, but bigger slots would be handier for bread machine loaves also. Thankyou !

I can't recommend a toaster for you I'm afraid but you've just reminded me that there was a youtube video doing the rounds a few years ago about about this. The guy had made a cardboard cut out of Warburton's toastie bread and was going round Curry's trying all the toasters out for size. Maybe you could do similar.

It reminds me of the time I was so sick of buying tea pots that looked beautiful but couldn’t pour properly, I asked the lovely lady in the shop to try it with some water for me, and she confirmed it didn’t dribble 🤣

I would recommend the Breville Edge - I have it and it fits my toast perfectly. The slots are about 5 inches deep which has always been plenty big enough.

I have one from aldi of all places that is just one long slot with see through window, it does fit jacksons in it but only one slice at a time! I'll never understand why toasters don't fit normal sliced bread🤷 but this was bought for home made bread and bagels so i didn't want the normal two slice toaster.

You need what is called a long slot toaster

You can toast bread in an air fryer, in case you cannot find a toaster big enough.

I got mine from Asda, pretty basic model. I did actually spend about a week going around various stockists with a bread sized piece of paper trying out all the different toasters! Shocking how many didn’t fit a pretty standard slice of bread in!

I also went in Curry's with a cardboard toast sizer to test toasters. Very few toasters were big enough. It's ridiculous that something so obvious is overlooked.

But then again, the people who make lasagne dishes have not thought about being on the same page as the lasagne pasta makers either.

I bought a Warburtons branded toaster and even that wasn't a good fit for Warburtons bread and it was crap, toasted very unevenly and broke after not very long.

But for Jacksons bread you need a long slot toaster like a PP says.

I had asked chatGPT about this, and a long slotted toaster was recommended, but the problem is they’re not usually deep enough … to ensure a 12cm high slice gets toasted all over, you need a slot depth of 13 or ideally 14 cm. And guess what … the manufacturers often publish the slot length, but rarely the slot height !!

Maybe there’s a technical limit to the surface area which the elements can cover whilst toasting evenly ? And that’s why you can’t get a long slot with generous depth ? Any experts out there ?

I find if you toast the bread for a minute the bread shrinks a bit and you can turn it on its side for the rest of the toasting

I have one of the Asda George brand ones that fits the larger slices. We used to go out with a piece of paper the size of the larger brwad slice to see if it fit.

I've got a Haden one. My previous one I just toasted the slice on its side.

Oh a similar note I am now going shopping for a butter dish with the measurements of a standard block of butter and a tape measure as I’ve bought three butter dishes in the last few months and none fit a standard size block in! So frustrating

How bizarre the manufacturers of toasters aren't (yet) manufacturing toasters that fit, you know, fairly regularly sized bread!
