Sunscreen recommendations for a five-year-old with eczema and sensitive skin

Anybody got a recommendation for sunscreen for a 5 year old with eczema.. his current sensitive, hypoallergenic one is causing his body to become very red and sore yet the GP says they are all more or less the same… his body calms down overnight but then flares when it’s applied and it can’t not be applied in this weather!

What’s the one he’s reacting to currently? Does it have Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane in it? As most chemical sunscreens have this and I know it can be an allergen for some. Ultrasun is the only one I know of that doesn’t.

The other option is a mineral sunscreen that relies on zinc etc rather than chemicals. Green People for example or I think Avene does a mineral sunscreen or La Roche Posay.

None of these are cheap brands unfortunately but they do tend to last well and protect well.

I react to a lot of sun creams. One I can use is La Roche Posay.

La Roche Posay or Avene. I like Avene better I think, but it can be personal to how it feels. Either way, wash it off at the end of the day!

I use green people mineral sunscreen and beauty by joseon relief sun. I react to a lot of sunscreens but these work for me.

After years of trying different ones my daughter can only use piz buin allergy. It’s a really nice texture too.

I was going to recommend La Roche Posay DermoPediatrics. That’s what we used for DD who had sensitive skin as a baby. The one she reacted least to was the Baby version which came in a tiny tube. We used that till she was 2 and a half and then switched to the standard dermo-pediatrics. The baby one seemed even gentler but was a pain to rub in and left a white cast. It also got very expensive as a tube didn’t last long on a 2 year old. So in case the standard LRP doesn’t work, you could give the baby version a go.

Altruist had been best for my eczema ds.

I've found Altruist to be excellent for use on painful and inflamed eczema. Also as previous poster has mentioned, it's very affordable.

Definitely mineral sunscreen. My DC has eczema and is allergic to all the normal chemical based sunscreens that we have tried. He gets a rash and his eyes get really itchy and weepy. Mineral sunscreens are more expensive but we use Blue Lizard as it's better value than some.
