rear facing buggies

What is all this fuss about rear facing buggies being the latest thing? when my eldest was born 17 years ago ALL buggies had rear/ forward multi positional seats. In fact the bucket seats on the bugaboos and qunnys today are very much like the ones around years ago. The earlier versions ALSO folded down in one piece.I had a Britax which was a middle of the road model but all makes from the cheap mailorder catalogue models to the top of the range silver cross, all reversed. The maclaren superdreamer was fantastic, it reversed, folded really flat(easily) and was light as a feather- why maclaren dont bring that design back i dont know.
Anyone remember the Mothercare Allez- now that was a buggy ahead of its time. I bet that would be a best seller today!

yes i do remember all the buggies you mentioned
and yes they were all in one folding and a lot sturdier too

strawberriesandcream01 · 30/07/2008 08:48

Gosh, I remember all these and I was only a kid myself then! See how buggy obsessed I was and still am! Why dont they make these still

lillypie · 30/07/2008 09:23

25 years ago I had a Chicco one that was umbrella folding had a bucket seat and reversed by unscrewing a nob on each side flipping the seat over and tightening the nobs again.Simple!!

misdee · 30/07/2008 09:28

the maclaren superdreamer is worshipped by pram nuts all over.

i love rear facing buggies. but trying to find one at a decent affordable price is hard.

lillypie · 30/07/2008 11:06

look

Loriycs · 30/07/2008 14:18

Yes the superdreamer, they really SHOULD bring that one back but with suspension. I amnaged to get hold of one from ebay and used it a few times.HAD LOADS OF LOOKS!!! I was very rickety though compared to todays buggies, but the concept of it is great, so practical. Does anyone else remember the mothercare allez. similar to superdreamer but with a more modern look and fold.

yes i also remember the reversible chicco umbrella fold, they did a double one too.

Does anyone have anymore pictures or links of older buggies like this?

Britax used to do one that was similar to the maclaren one.

I also love the mothercare super olympus! Wanted one when I had my baby 5 years ago but got something different! Bebe confort used to do nice rear facing bucket style buggies too.

Pinkchampagne · 30/07/2008 23:25

Blimey, I remember all these buggies! Mothercare did a multi position umberella fold one that faced both ways. think it was called the anyway stroller or similar. My mum's friend had it fo her child in 1983!

suwoo · 30/07/2008 23:29

Loricys- no wonder you had loads of looks-its fuckin hideous. I would have assumed that that pram would have been purchased from a charity shop for 50p. DS is 19 months and still faces me FWIW.

strawberriesandcream01 · 30/07/2008 23:39

pink, I wanted one of those umberella buggies that faced either way but could never find one.

Pinkchampagne · 30/07/2008 23:45

They should still sell them! Mothercare did one & then think it was Cindico (think that was the make) that did something similar. I was also sad & knew my buggies back then!!

scruffyy · 30/07/2008 23:46

Yup remember them all - I think I sold them all! The Allez was revolutionary at the time and has never really been repeated. I think it was renamed the Laser if I remember. The Superdreamer was the first "travel system" and sold really well. Anyone remember the Mothercare: Taxi (felt like pushing a tank - but never broke!), The Via I & II later known as the Olympus, The Relay (cheaper and looked it). I could go on for ever - kind of a pushchair guru I'm affraid!

Pinkchampagne · 30/07/2008 23:48

I remember the via! My godson (now 21!!) had a via! It had yellow reflectors on the wheels!

scruffyy · 30/07/2008 23:51

Yup was available in seersucker (pale blue with pastel print down the middle) and later in navy with pink check.

Pinkchampagne · 30/07/2008 23:53

His was pale blue with yellow blobs all over, I think! My cousin had the via 2 for her little girl, which was wider with a bumper bar.

strawberriesandcream01 · 30/07/2008 23:54

I am now trying to find pictures on net of all these pushhairs! Not having much luck though. Desperately trying to find a picture of the umberella style that faced both ways!

scruffyy · 30/07/2008 23:55

Bloody good pushchairs they were - only ever got loose on the point where the seat swivelled - which could be corrected using a 2p!!!!

Pinkchampagne · 30/07/2008 23:56

Pretty sure it was called the anyway stroller. Think there was an everyway too, which had bigger wheels. The umberella stroller had red reflectors on the wheels & was going for years

scruffyy · 31/07/2008 00:02

Got a piccie of a very worn our Olympus - could someone enlighten me how to put up a link?

scruffyy · 31/07/2008 00:03

((www.adtrader.co.uk/image_show2.php?image_id=6982131 Olympus))
Geeze I'm crap - should really learn to read instructions

scruffyy · 31/07/2008 00:05

Forgive me - I'm useless!

Can't get a link to it - but copy and paste!!!

Ohh. I had the Mclaren one when my eldest was born . He is 10 now and it wasn't new then.
I remember stopping some foreign woman in Netto's because hers was forward facing and I didn't know how to do it! She got her young son to do it after making me take DS out. Lovely pushchair and so easy to fold.

Pinkchampagne · 31/07/2008 10:55

Wasn't it just called the dreamer at first, and then they brought out the superdreamer. Maclaren don't do a rear facing pushchair now do they? They seem to have taken a backward step there!
