Victorian house. Wood floors downstairs. No patterns, want it to be neutral. Friend has looped wool one and it looked shite after a year. Anybody?

Can you get to a John Lewis and have a browse? They have an amazing range, including dozens of neutrals; not cheap, but good quality and their fitters did a great job. Not sure exactly what "looped" means, but ours is wool and the colour of digestive biscuits. Looks lovely three years on, despite two babies, but I have to say we're very handy with the Vanish carpet spray...

Second the idea of going to John Lewis. They give very good advice, god value and have excellent after-sales service.
