Smart trainers for office?

I can’t be bothered to wear anything other than comfortable shoes to work.

What trainers would you recommend that pass as “smart enough” for the office?

Well clearly it depends on the office, to all those saying that trainers are absolutely not suitable for the office, maybe not in YOUR office but they're definitely ok for others. I don't know why people can't imagine that not everywhere is the same.

Workplaces in general have become a lot more casual over the past few years. Where I work there is a huge mix of more traditional business attire and casual wear, even people just in jeans/tshirt/trainers and it's all absolutely fine.

I can't wear heels at all so I wear trainers, I have a pair of dark green adidas grand court base trainers, a powder blue pair of New Balance 574 and a pair of off white ecco leather trainers that are slightly smarter and a pair of white sketchers bobs. I would have loads of other pairs too if I didn't have weird feet that severely limit my choices.

I sometimes wear ankle boots in winter and (shock horror!!) sandals in summer too but never a high heel.

Heels kill me so always wear flats but have loved the transition to trainers. Even wore my white leather style bobs with black wide leg trousers and it looked ok. It will be a cold day in hell before I ever wear heels.

I really like Jigsaw Portland trainers. I have them in red & emerald green (new from eBay/Vinted) - but they do more neutral versions too.

Hoff trainers, so May lovely styles and colours including some with laces and a sort of Mary Jane strap. I will be asking for some for my birthday, probably the green woven ones.

I wear Toms. Insanely comfortable, like slippers but don't look too dressed down or sporty. I also like some of the Remonte trainers.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 17/06/2026 19:28

Mine are from Sole Bliss. Expensive but comfortable, especially as I have foot problems and shoes just aren’t comfortable

Depends what you wear them with imo. I’m not a fan of trainers which are chosen to closely resemble office shoes, so low profile and neutral colours- I think just looks frumpy. I wear a lot of wide leg front pleat trousers with formal silk shirts or cashmere, so I need to balance with anti formal footwear and wear trainers a lot to do that. I think you need to go big and go outre, and ideally, pricey- or risk looking like you’re in nurses shoes (not my bag! But yes, comfortable). These will be divisive (or universally hated 😁) but I have a few pairs of these Stella McCartney Eclypse. My fave are red /orange and leopard skin.

Oh and socks- patterned, stripes ‘cutesy’ (I’m not!) coloured ones. Eg terracotta ones with black and white ring tailed lemurs. Emergency buy from station shop, and I’ve returned to buy many more since.

😂

Loads of people wear trainers here.

Okay 😂.

Loads of people may wear them but I don’t think they are office attire not sure what is funny about that?

Brummiecurlz173 · 17/06/2026 22:21

a good failsafe is Airforce 1s as they come in solid white or solid black and can be found with a simple pop of color on some of them. blazers is another good option as they can be either leather or suede. failing that, Field General would be a good model as would Corteiz.

Adidas Grand Court Lo, worn with wider leg trousers.

Livingthedream1978 · 17/06/2026 23:20

I wear my Veja’s a lot with wide leg trousers. I’ve had them years and still look new.

I got these from Uniqlo for work. Perfect for me

I have some Remonte trainers that look like that. They are so comfortable snd practical. I wear them a lot

bridgetreilly · 17/06/2026 23:50

What about a ballet-trainer for summer? I think you could definitely get away with those and still be super-comfortable.

FairyBatman · 17/06/2026 23:51

White and silver vejas or pale grey spezial are my current go to. So long as you keep them clean they look smart enough.

Strawberryteabag · 18/06/2026 12:13

Gazelle's/Samba's or similar

luckylavender · 18/06/2026 15:55

Depends on your office obviously

Joyas. Approaching £200 a pair, teamed with £14 cushioned ankle socks. Bye bye back pain and helloooo comfort.

Any recommendations for these magic cushioned ankle socks?

Daisymail · 18/06/2026 17:36

I have the women's Premier Low Top in camel, very comfortable and look smart.
