Please talk to me about presents for DS2's 7th birthday. Am considering some sort of electronic pet thingy. Anyone know anything about them?

DS2 asked for a Bee-bot - as far as I can see, they are more educational than just toys and seem very expensive. Was wondering whether he would like some sort of electronic pet instead - but don't know much about them. Anyone's DC got such a thing? Are they any good?

Has he gota Tamagotchi? My DS is 7 and loves his Tamagotchi..There is a new version out called Familitchi, where you raise a family together (you have to feed/clean/discipline/play games etc with them to keep them happy).

They're good as they can stick them in their pockets and take them out with them in the car or whatever. They can also 'talk' to other Tamagotchis if his friends have them.

That sounds like just the kind of thing I am after!

Sorry but I think that electronic pets are plain weird and truly detached from reality.
Would go with books/puzzles/outdoor toys.

here on this website for £13.
Tamagotchis also have their own website if you google it.

Are they? I really don't know anything about them.

He has lots of books (and is getting more for his birthday), and lots of games, and a bike and a scooter.

I just thought something different might be nice.

SixSpot - don't get obseesed with it like I did. I used to feed and look after DS's when he was at school. One day I killed them with kindness. When they die they grow wings and fly off into the air. The good thing is you can hatch a new one straight away!

Thats just my personal view SSP, but I really think they teach kids how to relate to electronic equipment rather than real people or animals.
Personally i think a RL pet is a much nicer present.

Pannacotta, we are getting some gerbils soon, but I wanted to leave it to the end of the school hols as the DSs will be away for most of the hols and obviously it would be wrong to get them and then abandon them straight away.

SSB I didnt meant to sound judgemental!
Just think that at 7 its nice for kids to have fun toys rather than getting them into the habit of focussing on electronic things...

This is wonderful

So talk me through these Tamagotchi things then. Which one is best?
