Do I need one?????
The hospital booklet I have says that I should bring one with me when I have the baby... but they're SO big! I mean, how much water do I really need for cleaning my little person?

I know they aren't particularly expensive or anything, so it isn't really that big a deal if I never use it... but i'd rather cut down on the unnecessary clutter if I can!

from my fave urban myths site

Beansmum · 27/01/2005 12:51

definitely take snacks. ds was born at 11am so by the time I got to the postnatal ward I had missed lunch, then they forgot to ask me what I wanted for dinner so I missed that too, hadn't eaten since the previous lunchtime so I was starving! I was eventually offered a bowl of cornflakes but I don't think I would have survived without my muesli bars and raisins (and chocolate)

starlover · 27/01/2005 12:51

i hadn't thought of food!

list of things to add now:

extra sanitary towels/breast pads/pants
bigger babygro
tissues
bibs
pen

a clock - definately cos when the mw asks you how long baby's been asleeo or what time they woke / last fed I didn't have a clue!!

Not alarm clock though, you won't need one of those for the next 5 years!!

iota · 27/01/2005 12:55

Don't forget that visitors can bring stuff in if you forget something or need things you haven't thought of.

dh was dispatched to buy big knickers after the birth as I has an unplanned caesarean

charlie01 · 27/01/2005 12:56

I took so much food its untrue, was very embarrassed when the consultant knocked my cupboard thing and the door came open revealing my supply shelf complete with doughnuts, muffins, sarnies, pork pies, chocolate etc And to think he'd come to congratulate me on my 10 pounder! Wonder how I grew one that big!

charlie01 · 27/01/2005 12:58

I wouldn't buy disposable knickers again, they were way too small. Wore my maternity pants (the upto your armpits kind) for probably the next six months, much more comfortable.

starlover · 27/01/2005 12:59

think i shall take a few snacks, and send dp out if I need more.
I spotted several vending machines nearby!

lol charlie! If you were in Stepping Hill hosp. then no wonder you needed the food! It's vile. (Hope I've not offended any hospital chefs )

charlie01 · 27/01/2005 13:03

Yep good old stepping hill! Served up some delicious grub! By the way have emailed you a couple of times, have you got them? Got a CAT saying you'd lost my email address?

Kelly1978 · 27/01/2005 13:04

I put in another vote for food. I was soo hungry after labour, and as it was bfast time I only got two lousy bits of toast unitl lunch!

bundle · 27/01/2005 13:04

big dark knickers are best, ones you wouldn't mind chucking out.

Lucycat · 27/01/2005 13:07

I was starving too - it was about 8pm and when I was offered a cup of tea they just heated up a half drunk cup that dh had left (he'd gone to find his camera). Then it was straight to the ward where no food was offered until breakfast. I was starving as hadn't eaten all day and had been sick a thousand times!!

nailpolish · 27/01/2005 13:25

hi do you mind another tip?

i found that i got a million visitors when i was in and although it was very nice they brought hundreds of cards and pressies.

after they had gone i would pass them to dh and ask him to take them home. theres not much room in the ward and will just get in the way, plus you will have enough things to carry when you leave to go home

although if you are like me you will find you are the only woman on the ward without hundreds of cards around your (and balloons) and everyone will feel sorry for you!

lowcalCOD · 27/01/2005 13:26

yes why do pople give adults ballons?

nailpolish · 27/01/2005 13:27
